Same as the 13 really, although I would like to move it around quiet a lot. Not sure if I'll notice an extra pound

I love my 15" I got it to have the bigger screen when I am away from home but Im not sure I like it being as big as it is. I am considering a 13" rMBP

Yes I carry it all over the place. It weighs less than 5 pounds. Can you carry 5 pounds? My math book weighs about the same.

Wouldn't the best be having a 11'' as powerful as a high-end 15'' to chuck around, and just plug it on an ext screen when at home?

I'll keep dreaming...

Yes, I carry my 2012 rMbp around. I went from a 2007 black macbook and it's actually lighter! I use an incase sleeve and it goes in the laptop compartment of my Oakley backpack. I carry it around campus all day with no issue. Never thought a 15" notebook could be so portable.

  • Is the 15 inch portable?
  • Do you have a case?
  • What kind of bag do you use?

When I bought the latest 15", I ordered a Moshi case for in store pickup and I purchased an Incase sleeve from Amazon that was delivered to my home. I was the nervous Apple Mommy buying all and sundry to protect the little one.

The sleeve was delivered to my home and I've been using it ever since. I chose store pickup for the case, but have not picked it up and considering just cancelling the purchase because I don't think it's necessary and, for now, I like the look of the naked macbaby.

I travel weekly with my laptop and it's no biggie to plop it in the tray at airports(it remains in the sleeve) or taking it to the different meetings I have during the day. One thing I do is I place it on the sleeve when using it at my desk so it does not get scratched up. :) No scratches yet, but it's less than 2 couple weeks.

My bag.... I have an old (2006) messenger style tumi bag that's sturdy and built to last. It even has a padded section for laptops - laptop gets double protection as it's in the sleeve.

I agree - but make mine a 13".

Yes it's portable but it's also annoyingly bulky. If your gonna carry round the 15" get a backpack; something to spread its weight evenly. Don't bother with an across the body style bag, your back won't thank you.

I'm basing my opinion on a 2010 MBP but I'm guessing the newer models aren't that much lighter.

I'm a girl and if you find carrying a 5lb laptop in a bag bulky... hmmm. This laptop is very light - almost too light to carry around plain because it's so thin and smooth.

I guess it all depends on the person.

I remember using a Samsung 15" laptop for school.

To be honest, I didn't carry it around unless it was absolutely necessary.

It was unhandy while using public transport.

But if you are planning on using a backpack where the macbook fits 100% I think you won't mind the additional weight that much.

Cheers.

I wasn't concerned with the weight, I was more concern with the form factor and if people liked carrying around something that wide, Because you need room for it lol
Whether "people like it" or not doesn't matter. It's whether it suits your particular needs/wants and you can't poll others to determine such matters. I have no problems carrying and using my 15 but there are plenty of others that prefer a smaller laptop.

I carry it around with no problem.
Many feel that 13" is as high as they will go, but since the 15" only weigh 2kg its no problem at all to carry around.
Over 2kg starts to be more of a issue if you want to carry it for longer distances.
You do need a bag tho, just like you do on the 13" also.
I use both a bag and a leather sleeve for the laptop, and it works great. I have the sleeve around the rMBP to protect it from other things in my bag mostly.
There are very few bags that can carry a 13" but not a 15" laptop, so the issue of the size is not present.
Also the ones that are only rated for 13", seem to work with the 15" rMBP also, probably because they account for other manufacturers having larger 13" laptops, and the fact that rMBP is 16/10, so its not as wide as other laptops.

I would recommend a bag with a shoulder strap, thats what i find works best.
But its really about what style you want, then functionality.

I use this sleeve, which i really love:

yes, it's very portable, last year people would have been saying the 15" cmbp is too heavy but the 13" cmbp is perfectly portable, well, the 15" rmbp weighs the same as the 13" cmbp, so it's perfectly portable

yes

I carry around my 15" in one of these:

With all of the other crap I need to carry with me on a daily basis, the difference of 1lb for me (over the 13") is negligible.

I have one of these for my MacBook Pro. Nice enough to also carry around as an every day purse. I can also carry my phone and iPad in it with room to spare

Yes I am a female :D

Saddleback Large Classic Briefcase.

Also have one of these:

Quality is similar and looks almost exactly the same (even down to the dimensions) but doesn't have the 100 year warranty of the Saddleback!

Very cool, do you have the medium or large saddleback? I wonder if the medium would be big enough for a 15 rMBP, really liking that bag! Xmas maybe?

I have the large.

But I think the medium should be big enough but don't take my word for it (the website says that it should fit 15" laptops, which should include the rMBP; you could shoot them an email or something just in case).
