that glasses analogy is BS. You use eyeglasses an inch or so from your eyes and any small scratches will be out of focus and invisible. And that's the ONLY place you use your glasses. And you don't touch your glasses to use them. Your phone, however, is used in all different locations, and you do touch the screen to use it. Small scratches on glasses are insignificant, small scratches on a beautiful piece of electronics with a super-high res screen are not insignificant. So it's comparing rotten apples to fresh oranges. It sounds clever, though, if you don't give it any thought.

id hate scratches on my glasses as well....its an all around sickness with me.

Yup. Powersupport...haven't met any glass surface on any phone that is unscratchable.

I don't buy these screen protectors for the *protection* - I keep the phone with my wallet and away from my keys.

I buy it for the anti glare - glare on a phone or on a monitor is an instant turn-off for me (and why I'll never own an iMac.)

Power Support gives me a VERY clear retina display while still keeping the glare away. I won't use anything else. (Been using Power Support since the iPhone 3G.)

No. They get their own pocket, and that's been fine for me since 2007.

Agreed!

Yeah, that is protected well. As mine,it is protected by sgp screen protector and also the tiny case as well. The scratches are not permitted on my 4s.

So do you use the crystal or anti-glare version? You said you use PS film for anti-glare and still retain a very clear display. I find that the anti-glare is great with fingerprints/glare but not exactly great for keeping a "very clear" display. The crystal one doesn't really seem to help with glare however.

So I'm just curious which model you're using?

Do some of you guys even bother with a screen protector?
Some do, some don't. You need to make the call for yourself.

It seems no matter what screen protector I go with, it diminishes the awesome quality of the retina display.
Try the PowerSupport Crystal as suggested above. If fingerprints/smudges are a concern then try the SGP oleophobic.

Try doing more research before buying. That includes Googling as well as reading/searching forums and noting not just specific recommendations but trends. It's how I found the PS Crystal and SGP oleophobic. There's tons of info out there -- make use of it to your advantage. Also, don't forget the iPhone Accessories subforum which is intended for topics like this.

It will scratch no matter what anyone tells you.
Not exactly. It can scratch. It isn't unscratschable. That's not the same as "It will scratch".

Keys aren't relevant. They're not harder than glass. You can't scratch a material using a softer material.

Nope, 100% naked. No scratches in over a year.

I used to use a PowerSupport Crystal as mentioned earlier ITT, and it really was crystal clear. I just got tired of all the fingerprints.

i've never used any screen protectors on my iphones and have never had a single scratch. my hands aren't very steady so i'm not confident enough to install screen protectors, especially the expensive ones.

i'm also constantly changing cases so having a screen protector would be inconvenient as i'd have to worry about bubbling and etc. if you take care of your phone it'll be fine and not have scratches. if it DOES get scratched it shouldn't be visible when the phone is on.

Anyone who thinks that a few mils of mylar or PE plastic is going to protect your phone from pressure strong enough to scratch glass is fooling themselves.

BodyGuardz front and back with an Incase snap on case. I've never used the Power Support ones, but these are crystal clear and you can't even tell it's there.

I sorta need them. I have a bad habit of putting my phone in the same pocket as my keys. The protectors usually get scratched to hell within a couple months. This is why I always buy bulk screen protectors off eBay

no. the glass is a super composite of incredible engineering. if you scratch it, you are just a careless person and an uber flimsy plastic sheet won't help that.

Always used a screen protector on all my iphones! Bestskinsever is what i use! They also give protectors for the antennas so the bumper won't scratch them!

What an incredibly ignorant thing to say.

I was super anal with my iPhone 4. I would always keep it within a little pouch in my pocket (which would have no keys or anything sharp), but it still managed to get a scratch right on its face. That's the thing. People think they are immune to scratches and it will never happen to them. But one day, and it will occur at some point, you will get a scratch on the very face of your iPhone and you will feel the regret of not having a screen protector every single time you use it.

I used to always use a screen protector and my screens looked perfect. Then with my 4 I took it off about 5 months ago, I baby my phones but accidents do happen. So I now regret it.

There was only a tiny tiny scratch on the glass until it got a couple small dings from my son forgetting it was on his lap when he got out of the car and the phone fell, cracking the back glass as well. :( it only fell about 2 feet.

So from now on with my 4S I will always be using one, it also helps with resale.

Being a perfectionist will drive you crazy. Nothing is Perfect.

I buy my tech gear to use & enjoy. I take very good care of it, by using a little common sense & caution. Besides what are you saving it for? A pristine iPhone is rarely worth much more than a new one anyway.

I never use a screen protector. It's a waste to cover the terrific Oleophobic Coating Apple uses. The superior tactile feel & drag is ideal.

Just use it & enjoy. I've yet to experience any scratches at all.

Don't forget, if something does happen, it's only a phone & completely replaceable.

I use the Power Support anti-glare. On my 3GS I used some cheap ones from Amazon, and they were fine, too. But I prefer the anti-glare look.

Huh???

Some of us are plenty careful with out phones and have still gotten scratches through no real fault of our own. For example, I got scratches on my iP4 just from sliding it in and out of my jeans pocket with nothing else in it. Must have been some small grain of dirt/sand or something in the pocket I guess.

This was only a few weeks after I received a new replacement iP4 from the Apple store and the phone was never put in a pocket with anything else.

The screen is not scratch-proof and a screen protector most certainly DOES help protect against these types of small scratches.
