I have a 4GB and I'm fine with it. I usually have one movie on there at a time and switch up the music on it frequently. I have about 30GB of music, but what I can fit on the iPhone is perfectly fine for daily use.

You know it's interesting... when I got my 8GB iPhone, I was worried about it... because my iTunes playlist is over 8GB... but it forced me to go through my playlist and take out stuff I don't listen to. It's been GREAT! I got it down to like 4GB and now I can just shuffle everything on my iPhone and be happy with whatever plays! I can't do that on my 30GB iPod that has everything. If I shuffle music on it, there's a 90% chance that I won't want to hear the song that is chooses.

Depends on a lot of things, some being:

1. Are you going to watch video?
2. Do you subscribe to a lot of podcasts?
3. How much compression do you use on encoding?
4. Do you have another (larger iPod)?

Personally,
I can't stand the fidelity loss that occurs when you overcompress music so I have encoded about 25% of my CD collection (about 6000 songs) at AAC-192, which I consider the maximum tolerable compression ratio. The audio comes out to about 40 gigs. So I have old 60 gig iPods in each car instead of CD players, but have a favorites list of about 750 four and five star songs for the iPhone. That plus a hundred or so audio podcasts just about fills up my 8gig phone.

geeze how much music can you listen to in one day...scratch that,,, how much could you listen to in a year... 500 Gb really??? lol good luck with that :)

I also fail to understand this need for ppl to carry every single song in their music library with them too. I hear ppl saying the 160gb iPod isnt big enough. WTF ever ppl.

Sounds like me. I have roughly 50gb of music in my entire collection, but 4gb iPhone is plenty for my usage. Personally I rarely listen to music or watch videos. I can have a cpl full length movies if compressed right, 10 cds or so and some other assorted videos before space gets tight. Thats plenty for me.

Did I find the 8GB limiting?...Yes
Have I adjusted accordingly?...Yes

The most powerful tool I use is the Ratings feature in iTunes. I create a 5-star - 4-star & 3-star playlist. Supposing I go on a trip and would like a couple movies available. I would Sync the movies then my 5-star songs and my 4-star songs and forfeit my 3-star playlist that the movies have bumped out.

I have 36GB of Music and this keeps things just interesting enough. Syncing my 5/4/3-star playlist occupies all but 220MB of my iPhone.

well i have the 8 gb too. as of right now, i dont feel limited yet but then eventually you are going to need more space in the futher, so i recommend getting the 16 gb instead of the 8 gb.

I have 90 gigs of music and music videos of DVD rips, and hundreds of gigs worth of movies and tv shows, so the 8 gig I have is just enough to get by. I really do not want the 3g to be limited to 16...I hope they offer a 32 model, even if it comes at another $100 premium. I feel like 32 would be a sweet spot. 16 would feel almost as restricted as 8, although it s clearly better.

My actual music takes up about 15GB. The reason I carried it all around before is 1) I could, and 2) you never really know what you'll be in the mood for, especially if you're on a long trip and won't be syncing.

When you get past the music in your library, no storage is enough (for me) because of the same theory with video. I have about 500GB of video on an external hard drive. Right now, I can only carry about two movies and maybe 3 or 4 TV episodes. I deal with it, but I'd like to carry more for the same reason as more music: I don't know what I'll want to use any given day.

What's most obvious about this is why both the iPod Classic and the iPod Nano are huge hits. It all depends on what you want to do.

I honestly do feel a bit limited with 8gb, but it really is a matter of convenience more than anything else. It would be very convenient to just have everything on my computer synched with the iPhone and just spare the inconvenience of having to select from a catalog of thousands of music files as well as video, pictures, and podcasts. It will be an even tighter squeeze when 2.0 is released and apps will be competing for this diminishing space as well.

For practical use though I think 8 gigs is just about right to get by. I have a decent audio selection as well as two full length movies, a few podcasts, and about six months of photos.

I do think that 32 gigs will be the sweet spot for this type of device where it would be a practical replacement for hd based media players and hope that within a year or two Apple will be able to achieve that.

If we don't get a 32gb iPhone in June then I'm going to settle on the 8gb iPhone. I've got 24gb of music alone (and 200gb+ of video content). 8gb will be enough for me and I won't be discarding the 80gb iPod I got last July.

I kind of got tired of the 8GB and got a 16GB the first day they went on sale way back in early February. With the 16GB, I was able to load up all my iTunes purchases and still have 2.5GB free. I find I don't sync as often now, mostly to add my new purchases to the phone. With the 8GB, I was syncing everyday to change the music.

FWIW I thought the same thing but almost literally haven't touched my 30GB iPod since I got the iPhone. The only reason I messed with it was trying to set it up for my parents to use (I don't think they're that into it). I'm now thinking about selling it to a friend.

Even the old ROKR had enough room for me. At the time I ranked it higher than my 6gb iPod mini because it was just much easier carrying 1 device around.

Meh I don't think theres much point in picking which capacity I'll be getting. By the time the 3G iPhone is out we might be looking at 16/32gb at the same price the 8/16gb is now! Either way these phones will be holding a bit more than my RAZR is now. 4mb internal storage? boooo.

I have like 9.5 of music(with music videos) and 95 of TV/Movies...and I'm fine with my 8GB, I keep the best stuff on it, and recently added stuff.

I do have a 160GB for long trips but it doesn't get much use

Yes, 8 gb is very limiting. 16 would be perfect IMO. But the new iPhone needs a faster transfer method.

Very limited, Im re-encoding all my cds to lossless and well take a look and imagine *attached pic*. And my 30gb iPod is 210MB away from being full...

Well I finally got my 8gig yesterday at Twelve Oaks Mall, Novi, MI. The process could not have been simpler, he saw me and my friend's canadian visas and didn;t say a word. He asked for our postal codes, I naturally gave him my Canadian one, he couldn't enter it in, so said, screw it, lets skip that step. To make things better, customs ont he way back didn;t even ask us what we bought so no duty!

I also got a white incase slider case and have ordered a pair of Griffin TuneBuds mobile because the apple headphones make me feel like there is a fire in my ears.

8 gig is more than enough ti seems, I brought down my music to 5 gig of stuff I would actually listen to, two movies, all my pics (at least those on my macbook), contacts, blah blah, lots of cool software...

I love this thing and I never knew a cell phone could be this sweet, I;ve been living with a 4-year old basic audiovox phone so its a nice treat to move from that to an iPhone.

Thanks for all the help and I highly recommend you make your next purchase at the Twelve Oaks Mall Apple Store!

I am fine with my 8GB, it would be nice to fit a movie or two more and I always have it maxed out, maybe if 3G comes out i will upgrade to a larger then.
