The 15" rMBP seems like a feather to me. I still carry a 2010 15" MBP and all I can think of is how much lighter it is than my old 17" MBP.

But everything is a brick compared to the new 12" MacBook. Things just feel heavier over time when you start using newer, lighter stuff.

I wouldn't mind it having a smaller footprint, but I don't find it bulky as it is at all.

Personally I do, i wish it was a little bit smaller but wouldn't sacrifice the 15" screen so I will live with that, I mean it's not heavy but the footprint is big-ish.

Large, a bit buy not heavy
Occupational Therapy principles state that the total weight of the bag is within 10-15%, the person should not suffer shoulder strain
If a person weight is 80 Kilos, they should be more than ok with a 8 Kg bag

I know a mature lady who uses 15 MBPr without any problems and she travels a lot
But its is also about perception of each one and I appreciate that some people likes less weight
But this does not mean that the perceived real weight would be harmful
A reasonable healthy individual may have health issues if they are unable to carry between 10-15% of their weight
I put the laptop inside my bag, in my car and I only carry the bag from car park to the office and viceversa
Occasionally, I flight and I use iPad, read book or even use 15 MBPr without any problems. I will buy MB 12 inches as a secondary machine as it is very nice, but not essential in my case.

The laptop display doesn't stay on in clamshell mode.

The whole point is to be able to leave it connected via hdmi or display port, and use external (Bluetooth or wired) keyboard and mouse. I had my 15" classic this way for months at a time.

It doesn't get anymore warmer than from usual use.

Thanks David :apple:

I travel a lot (flying, around city) with a 15" MSi gaming brick (work provided). Bag is usually 15kg or so. Never had problems. I wish it was lighter but eh.

I carry my laptop in my backpack all the time. Mid-2010 MBP 15". Pretty heavy but I got used to it. While the 15" rMBP isn't that light either, having trained myself with a heavier laptop I don't think I will have much problem with it.

I have a 15" cMBP which I carry around along with ~3 textbooks and a few folders with A4 paper pads most days. I can only dream of carrying around a rMBP... ;)

It is quite heavy though. Probably will go 13" rMBP next time around - looking to upgrade next year sometime. Since I have an external display now for use at home, screen size has become dramatically less important.
