When I got my generation 1 iPhone I didn't get stares, but whenever someone else also had one (during the first few weeks when they were sparse) they felt the need to run up and show it to me; "I have one too!", "What accessories do you have?", etc.

Same here. And a lot of people who didn't have one who were curious about or wanted to get one. Haven't noticed that this time around, but it's a lot less "unusual" than when the first one came out.

I'll just give them the "come any nearer and you die" stare, or the "I've got a knife in my pocket" hand gesture.

ROFLMFAO @ I've got a knife in my pocket hand gesture HAHA. I almost literally fell out of my chair...

Beginning this month, it's illegal to hold a cellphone while driving in the State of WA (and CA, I believe). The other day, I saw a lady using her 1st. gen iPhone while driving, that gave me attention.

On the other hand, I work in a college and people ask me about my white iPhone 3G a lot these days, some haters even made fun of me.

So far, I have only seen one lady holding a white iPhone 3G in the mall. Otherwise, never seen anyone with the iPhone 3G yet.

You know, the smartphone market is still pretty small, so the iPhone userbase is not many.

when im at school and pull it out for a minute, its always funny cuz someone sees it and they go speechless and before they even say 'is that an iphone?' im just like 'ya' and walk away.....its hilarious

They're still fairly rare in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (especially the 3Gs), but I don't really notice anyone paying particular attention to me when I'm using it.

I've seen someone with an iPhone, and I know two other people with one. Other than them not many around here, so I get a lot of stares and "Why do you want an iPhone its stupid!" and also I get the "You're so lucky I want one too!" But other than people that know me I don't get many stares, lol...

I use to get it all the time walking on the street to/from work. But now that it's available in Canada, not so much.

I did get two guys looking at me the other day waiting to cross the street. One of them was using a black 3G and I have a black cozip case on my 2G. He says to his friend "heh... his iPhone looks odd".... LOL

I live in Tulsa, Ok. I rarely ever see someone else with an iPhone. A lot of people do double takes when I use it in public, but not many people ask questions. I get a lot more questions about my MBA when I'm using it in public.

Whenever I hear people talking about the shortage of 3G's, I take my case off and pretend to talk on the phone so I can show it off

;)
just kidding!

Even though there are so many people in socal with iPhones I still get the "whoa is that the new iPhone" or the "rich ass" or the "you better keep that safe" look. I don't care though. :)

An old lady who was talking on her iPhone, gave me the thumbs up and a weird hand signal (I think it was some kind of "Sup' fellow iPhoner" signal that the pack of old people that have iPhones now around my town, just started doing).

ALOT of people have them now. It's not like the first one that cost too much for everybody. I should get used to it and get that iPhone hand signal down.

SUP.

Good thread that even I have noticed

I don't really get stares

I get people looking at it wondering what it is and when they realize what it is, they want to see it or see me playing with it

Everyone is fascinated by it even those I don't know seeing my play with it

LMAO. Tinfoil hat. Love it.

The only thing I ever get is people asking "is that an iPhone?", especially the teenagers, young adult set. If it's people I know, they always want to "see it", which means touch it. LOL

Sometimes I feel a little pretentious or whatever with it, but now that they are cheaper, more people are likely to have them, so I won't stand out so much perhaps.

I hate being asked by my friends (I'm in high school btw) if they can "see" touch my iPhone 3G. I feel like I can't use it around them or I need to bring it with me inside a safe or something. LOL! I like the attention but I'm actually kind of hoping that the initial shock dies down soon. Although there are still people lining up at the Apple store when they get shipments in. You'd think that Apple would learn from last year but I guess it really doesn't matter that much to them because they know they have a hot product that people will buy regardless of the wait time. LOL. :)

I love my shiny Iphone 3G.

But being in London I'm wary of whipping my Iphone out in public lest I be accosted by some woe begotten youth and have my 'Precious' stolen from me.

I was even more concious of using it this morning as I walked past a queue of salivating Iphone 3G idols queuing outside O2. Thought it would be in very poor taste to wave my Iphone around in front of them.

When I first got mine everyone in the world wanted to see it. Especially when I went back to college in the Fall. It was pretty weird. Now I have people asking me if that's the new iPhone 3g, although less people bother me now.

hahaha.. who'd have thought you'd have an "in" with the Golden Girls by using an iPhone

I go to school in a pretty ghetto area and whenever I pull it out there, I get stares and the occasional 'Giiiirl, is that the new iPhone? Psh, you lucky, I got my Metro'

Just so you know, Metro is the cheap company of SoFla that are low end phones and have like 35$ a month unlimited plan, but only for the SoFla area.

Hilarious. Other than that, in public, I normally get stares and some occasional whispering and such.

Kinda funny but not gonna lie, I love itttttt.
