I just recently bought my first LCD HDTV...

I have just been slowly transitioning as I need new tvs. I am not going to go out and spend thousands of dollars when I have working tvs in the house. :D

But with that said--I LOVE my LCD HDTV...and it's great with my new Xbox too.

If you can't tell a HDTV picture apart from a SDTV one at 2m your eyes need checking.

I'm surprised the stats for tubes is so high.

Personally I don't feel I need HDTV to enjoy watching TV. I enjoy it just as much on my 32" CRT as I would on a 50" top of the line LCD+LED TV... I don't have any consoles hooked up to it, and an old CRT wouldn't be good for that, but it has no problems with regular TV!

Computers are an ENTIRELY different matter however...

I concur that a true CRT HD looks better than their LCD counterparts. They don't sell them anymore because of the size factor. A CRT tops out at I think 60 inches plus is 3 feet deep and weight a ton.

Only Mitsubishi sells DLP and they look great under the proper lighting conditions. But again size is a factor in why they are not as popular.

Not to mention how much more power they suck up than LCDs.

I'm going to vote LCD because although I don't watch TV, everything I do watch is either on my laptop screen or a 19 inch monitor that I have sitting right behind it.

I got it 2 years ago and thought about getting something bigger, however it's a 16:9, has a 1440 by 900 pixel ratio, and looks great when playing games (back when I did play them). Plus I'm never farther than 2 feet from it so getting something bigger really isn't needed.

I have two Flat screen LCD TVs. The samsung is the biggest tv which resides in my lounge and used for watching movies as it has the 5.1 system connected to it. I don't watch tv on it other for movies. I watch the tv on my imac while i work.

Second tv is in my bedroom connected only to my Apple tv second gen for streaming my shows / movies from my imac.

The CRT still works fine, and I really don't use it very often, so I don't see a reason to replace it.

"They" would prefer that you don't think that way. "They" want you to spend, spend, spend.

Never mind that to amortise the savings on power, would take many, many years to achieve.

Keep your money in your pocket. ;)

Heh, I'm a tightwad by nature. Had my 20" CRT in the bedroom not died last year, my answer would have been "32in CRT in the living room and 20in CRT in the bedroom". I converted to the Dave Ramsey school of thought long ago. :)

Then again, I may get rid of that CRT just so I don't have to move it again. That sucker is heavy!

Mine hasn't been shifted for 5+ years :D

Tell me about it.

I have a working 32" in the living room, that has not been on for 3 years.

I ain't movin' it, no way. Now it's just another piece of furniture.

I've got a big 100 year old piano in the living room too  No one has used it for several years, so it can just be something to put stuff on :D

I have an awesome 35" Sony Trinitron TV circa 1998. It's worked perfectly since day one. It's a big sucker though; I'd have to estimate it weighs upwards of 200 lbs. As long as it keeps working just fine, that's how long I'll keep it.

I have a 27 crt but am thinking about buying the LG 50" plasma at costco for $800. But I am wavering due to the high cost when my current tv works fine, other than images being cut off. The LG is the TruThin design and is beautiful. Anyone know anything about this tv or have reservations about plasma?

CRT. It's a bit knackered now actually, only my girlfriend uses it. I tend to watch telly on my 21.5 inch iMac via iTunes, iPlayer or 4OD.
