No, not using one yet. Nothing too confidential on my iPad. Would love fingerprint like my 5s.

What does delay actually do? Does it come up with a popup after the set amount of time asking you to input the password? (after you have already been using it)

No if it's on like 1 minute then you lock it and come back 50 seconds later it will unlock.

Why no need to lock it? No personal information on it? No cookies set in Safari?

as i said i like using the smart cover to just unlock it. anyways it usually just sitting on my couch or in my bag for school. it wouldn't be a big deal if someone got into it.

I type it in every time. I set it that way since I was living with a roommate when I got it. I usually have it set to a 1 minute delay though.

Ya I have it set to type in every time but I don't even know why I have a passcode on it because I just leave it at home and take my laptop when I need it-not my ipad.

I think I just have a passcode on my ipad because apple recommended it when I set it up...

I only use one when I take my iPad out. When I'm traveling I always set one. But never at home.

Currently, I have mine set with 15 minute pass code lock, but I kind of like your idea. Then again if we had a home burglary I'd be in trouble. So going to keep my lock on with maybe now an hour for timing.

Yes, well, if somebody breaks in to my house I would be more concerned about my jewelry and spare checks. But to be honest I really don't care much. I have an ewallet that does stay locked and a bank app that always requires a password so if someone did steal my iPad I don't have much to lose besides the hardware. And locking it won't save that. The chances of someone breaking into my house are pretty slim.

There's just nothing on it that is available to anyone without the specific passwords so why add another. I only lock it when I travel because the chances of it getting stolen are a lot higher and my main purpose is to deny the thief the use of it out of spite for being an a$$ and stealing -period.

But if you're more comfortable with a pass code lock my guess is that you will actually enjoy having a longer time-out. And chances are if you do experience a break-in it won't be within an hour of your using your iPad so you can still have that peace of mind.

Exactly.

I do have confidential spreadsheets and some passwords (kind of encrypted) but I also have all my bills and receipts saved on a scanner app. We live in a pretty secure neighborhood with neighbors across the street that are retired and keep a look out for any problems when we're at work. And we have never had anything stolen, but we are still in a remote and rural area so you never know. I could care less about the hardware being stolen but more concerned about the data as it's not all password protected. The password with a longer timeframe should be the best option for me. Might even keep the iPad on long enough to track it down if it ever was stolen.

I use a passcode but mostly because I use Find My Friends for my family members on occasion, and I'd rather type in a four digit passcode than my insanely long, multi-character Apple ID password that Find My Friends would otherwise require. If you use a passcode, FMF doesn't require you to enter your password.

That, and I have email and journaling apps that I'd hate for strangers to get into. Everyone in the house knows my passcode and can use the iPad, but no one outside the house. I feel safe enough.

No password on my Air yet, as it's mainly used for home use. That may change when I start bringing it to school, but would probably be used with a password delay. Wouldn't mind using Touch ID when that makes its way to the iPad.

Only thing some one would want with my iPad is my iPad. All I have is games and apps. No banking and I don't even have my email on it. I would remotely wipe it if it was taken cuz I'm not giveing out my iPad. But yeah I have no concerns with being broken in to and having stuff on my iPad be stolen just be dieing without my iPad. I love that thing.

If it gets stolen out of your house chances are they took enough to exceed your deductible and you can get a new one. As I said, if someone breaks into your house you most likely have a bunch of other stuff more valuable or more dangerous to your identity/bank accounts and a piece of electronics is the least if your worries. But as one poster said, he keeps confidential info on his. That's more like a laptop/desktop. I certainly wouldn't leave any computer unlocked, even in my house that had confidential stuff on it.

It just depends on how one uses their iPad.

Personally, I try to avoid doing any banking on any device of mine that is portable (e.g., iPad, MacBook Air, or iPhone). That said, I do have passcode locks on all my portable devices because they contain confidential client emails and documents. I have an obligation to keep that material secure.

At first, I didn't set my (stationary) iMac with a passcode since it stays at home safe and secure. However, in order to fully implement the new iCloud Keychain on my other devices, I needed to add a passcode to the iMac too, so I set that one to a long delay.
