I've used Better Snap Tool for ages so I use "whole screen" windows or "half" screen windows regularly since resizing them is done easily. I combine that with Exposè gestures/Mission Control and can't ever imagine using anything else.

Tried Stage Manager for 2 minutes and its way too limiting.
This is what I use as well. I even have custom snap areas set up (with keyboard shortcuts). So nice. Works exactly like Windows Snap, but additionally does way more.

Tiles has worked pretty well for me and it has modifiers like option/command+side to make the window 1/3 or 2/3 and there's options for upper/lower half.

Overall I prefer to do fullscreen apps but it's wonky at times.

Typically I do something like this when I'm on my laptop. If I'm hooked to my 32 inch monitor I typically have it take up much less space.

Koelsh, thanks for your screenshots — and confirmation of what the terms mean and the inconsistencies that abound among apps!

I'll stick to my tried-and-true method of main window taking up most of the screen (menu showing) with windows for the couple of other needed apps just visible to the right behind the main app. I quit apps i', not using routinely.

Right-hand dock (never the bottom default), with hide-and-show optional depending on which app or project I’m working on, e.g., if lots of spreadsheet columns, landscape page orientation, or two windows on the same doc in Word, one for text and the other for bibliography.

Yes, I now have Photos take up the whole screen (not full screen) and it's much better.

You should use hot corners, if you regularly use Mission Control.
I use one hot corner, in the bottom right, to start my screensaver. I find it faster to do gestures on my trackpad than to move the cursor across the screen for hot corners, especially if I'm in the middle of something (like moving a file between windows that need to be exposed with Mission Control).
