Also, if something is supposed to open with one kind of program, like VLC for example, I feel its easier just to take it and drag it to QuickTime. Yes, I am lazy...

Assuming you have the proper codecs and so forth for QT - VLC has them built in. :p ;) What happens if you drag a bin/cue file into QT? Does it play it?
 
Yes I do have QickTime on my dock, but I have QuickTime Pro so I can use it for recording and creating and importing and so on, but when I only had the player I didn't have it on my dock.
