Yes & no. I was going to keep my 3G as a backup to my 4, but the day before the iP4 was released, I went tubing out at our lake house, and completely forgot that my phone was in the pocket of my swimming trunks:eek:

Since then my 3G has been sitting in a bag of rice because I continue to hope that one day it will work again.

No.

Sold the original iPhone and even my first gen iPod touch last summer for dirt cheap. Both were jailbroken. Ironically, I fetched more from the iPod touch than the iPhone. Condition was still excellent. I also miss it more because it was JB at 1.1.4. and it was customized to the core with Intelliscreen and whatnot. I miss Intelliscreen at under 1.5. It was also faster at web surfing and had a faster accelerometer for a smoother cover flow.

I would find it too redundant to have too many iOS devices esp since it hasn't changed much in 4 years and barely catching up to the dev community from 2008.

I do plan to get a back-up phone, but it won't be an iOS device. I am really looking into the SE XPERIA X1 for $149 unlocked at N1Wireless. But I hear some bad things about N1. I know WinMo sucks and hear the phone is laggy, but $149 for a sexy phone like it is not a bad deal. Remember, this was a SEXy phone from late 2008 that still cost over $600+ just two years ago! Either that or a WP7 phone. I was already getting used to organizing my media stuff with the Zune software just last night to prepare myself early. It has its flaws just like iTunes, but it's a learning curve I didn't mind going through.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.0.2 Mobile/8C148 Safari/6533.18.5)

I have my 3G, 3GS both in storage but they're not synced that fequently. I guess you could say they are backup phones.

Yep, I have my previously-used 32GB white 3GS around "in case" something happens to my iP4. We use it with a Universal Dock to store movies/videos for my young son. It's also jailbroken/unlocked on 4.1 should we ever travel overseas...which is not in the works, but you never know. I'll never sell it for these two reasons.

I carry around two iPhones, so you could say I have a backup. I use one phone for work calls, and the other personal calls. I lost one of the iPhones and quickly replaced it because it is so convenient to have two.

It's a bit too expensive to be worth it, if you lose your iPhone then buy a new one

I guess I don't have the resources to keep a second phone sitting around as "backup" If my iPhone 4 dies, I need to get a replacement ASAP.

I just keep my last phone around as a back up.
For me it is an old flip phone that I switch my sim out if I am doing something a little more risky. I am not going to care if I complete smash or get it into muddy water. It is a junk phone and honestly I have access multiple junk phones that are older phones that my family has updated over the years. They are just in a cabinet.

Not like old phone are worth much money.

nope, I have a back up phone, motorola droid. it has been too good to me for me to sell

3G was my first, but when I eventually can afford to move up (hopefully around when iPhone 5 is out) I'll keep my old one in its box just in case I do anything stupid.

I use my iPhone 3G when I go to the beach. With it's half broken screen, I don't worry about water or sand damage or care if it was stolen.

My backups to choose from:

Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000M
Nokia e63
Palm Pixi plus AT&T
Palm Treo 750 WM 6.1

And I have given away a Nokia e72 to my brother and a Palm Centro to my cousin. :)

I don't necessarily have a "back up" but I own an iPhone 3GS 8GB Black and an iPhone 3GS 16GB White (with a white digitizer ;)) and I keep them on the same iTunes backup. I alternate back and forth every few weeks. I keep the black in an Otterbox case and I keep the white one naked because I got it used and it was already kinda beat up.

I kept my old 3g, but to tell you the truth I can't stand looking at the screen so I'd probably end up buying another 4 if I broke mine.
