...(and buy a decent vaccum cleaner - Miele's S500 series will literally suck carpets off the floor)....

Personally, I am more partial to the Dyson. Not only is it an excellent machine and performer, it also looks cool (considering its status in life as a vacuum cleaner).

And mine is on the floor for two reasons: (1) My desk simply does not have room; and (2) I think that being on the floor reduces desktop clutter and makes hiding the cords easier. I think that the difference in dust and other cleanliness factors is negligible as long as you keep your workspace clean (vacuum often).

I've tried alot of different things. I really don't like putting it on the floor, I like easy access to the cables and the drives. Right now I have my tower parallel to my display, sitting behind it...it's a corner unit and I have about 4 feet of table space behind my display, a 23" ACD...

(I'm selling my 30" -- can't afford it...just too much, overkill for me.)

p.s. If you want to look, here's the auction for the 30" ACD:

Floor for two reasons.
One my deskspace is at a premum.
Two I live in earthquake country.

Nice setup.. but your precious Mac Pro is too close to the edge!! I like to keep mine (now on top) more away from the edge just incase it slips... :D

This is how I set it up:

You two have like... exactly the same setup. You must be like, the same person :|

You know, I should have bet that someone would say that sooner or later, because I had a feeling in the back of my mind.

It's just like the Dell workstation vs Mac Pro comparison. The Dyson is a lot prettier and has little touches which on first glance looks to be superior and people who don't know better (or are blinded by it's industrial design) will go on about how great it is, but it's actually inferior in use to the Miele in terms of doing what it is ultimately supposed to do.

Man - I can make Mac parallels out of anything. I'm good :p

on a related note - what is the best way to clean out a Mac Pro? Is there a guide anywhere? I'd be willing to open it up and go in with compressed air once a month or so.

It's like glasses were never invented.

Eesh.

I've bought one of those desktop-baskets from IKEA in which you hang the computer on the underside of the table. They are really great and costs (in Swe) only 30$ (yes, the dollar is rather low nowadays.. ).

This prevents dust from gathering in the machine, dust from the floor at least, and gives me room to vacuum the floor easily. It also saves space on the desktop and makes the ports on the Mac easier to reach.

Just use the can as it indicates. Keep your mouth shut and watch out for the eyes as well.

Eesh.

It's like plugging in a brain and reading in context was never invented.

;) - i've heard they can be pretty toxic and not to spray them with the can unside down or you'll be supercooling your MP with liquid CO2!!

Very useful for getting bumps out of cars though.

Sell your 23 and 20 and get a 30"! You bought that mStand for your MBP which is like $200 so money is no objective, right?

Nice setup. I live silver shiny things.

Thanks, the mstand is only $49.00 not $200 lol.

I've owned the 30" acd last year for a week but I returned it last year because I just didnt like it. I thought the 23" ACD was perfect for a main display with the 1920x1200 and now a 20" ACD is the perfect screen to compliment it to the right side of it.

The 30" ACD was very nice and had the wow factor but it was just too big. I had to shift my head upleft, downleft, upright, downright just to look at the whole screen. But with the 23" ACD and the 20" ACD all I have to do is just look a bit to the left and look a bit to the right and I can see each whole screen at one glance at a time.
