Do you leave your Macbook (new or old) on all the time?

Off the mains apparently according to my sisters mate who is a mac genius as this was my main concern before getting my macbook pro. He wreckons you can leave it plugged in, just use the battery a couple times a month to discharge it an charge it.

So charging it and letting it run down, and charging it full again is bad?
I'll just leave the laptops plugged in all the time then since I just use it at my couch.

I put mine to sleep when I'm not using it & it's plugged in most of them time although I've still managed to do 82 cycles since February.

Isn't it better to shut them down after your done using them to preserve battery life and to not lower the capacity of your battery?

No not bad all, apparently you still have to use it as a muscle an work it every now and again. Just to calibrate the battery every now and again say once a week just to use it. But leaving it plugged in wont hurt.

I leave mine plugged in practically 24x7. It's in Sleep-mode when I'm not using it, say during commute to work. I do calibrate the battery at least once a month, like how Apple recommends. This means that for an eleven month old Mac, it has only done 24 battery load cycles.

Yes, I have had two Apple laptops and leave them plugged in 98% of the time.
Occasionally they do get restarted as required by software updates or when
little software glitches appear and I do a pram reset. And every few months I let the battery run down to 10-20%.

DO NOT take your battery off the machine as a previous poster advised-the
mac will not run at full speed.

My battery on a 5 year old ibook is still functional by following this system.

2 years 1st gen blackbook, heavy usage, more than 700 charge cycles, battery health at 90% lasting abt. 2-2.5 hrs. I shut it down every 10 days approx. all the time i just close the lid and let it sleep, event when i travel. When i remove the charger i always let it drain to 3-4% and then charge it again. I try not interrupt the charge until it is fully charged and usually leave it on battery when i need to travel/move. I calibrate the battery every 2 months or so.

Glad to see there are other people who use their laptop as a laptop and not as a desktop (I'm not putting down people who do--just good to see people use it a lot for what it was made for--or one of the big reasons it was made for).

I used to take my laptop to class everyday but now I am not back to class until january so it's been just hooked up to a monitor and to the power plug for a couple of months straight i just leave it on.. torrent-ing...

Mine is always plugged in, unless im not near a plug socket.

Ive never 'calibrated' a battery.... not that bothered

It seems to last a few hours, and im happy with that, seems long enough on a train journy and what not.

I tend to shut it down at night, and let it sleep during the day, inbetween use.

Bravo... using it as it is intended to be used!

Just checked my battery with coconutBattery and im at 94% original battery after 24 months :) very impressed if i may say so myself :)

i typically turn mine off every night. its just something ive become accustomed to doing. but i keep it on all throughout the day.

Would it hurt if you charge a sleeping Macbook...

Would it hurt your Macbook if when it's sleeping and plugged into power if you left it in a sleeve? Mine's always ice cold when it's charging... can that hurt them?
