I welcome the larger screen. Done correctly the overall size of the phone won't hardly change. In fact I am heavily interested in a 5+ device.

I would like to have a bigger screen as long as the body is thinner and back is more curved. A 5s stretched to 4.7" would be way too bulky.

The only other thing is that 90% of the time I use my iPhone in one hand with my thumb. The Nexus 4 has a 4.7" screen (I own one for testing android apps) and I can use it with one hand, but I have to constantly shift my grip which is annoying and makes it more prone to being dropped than the iPhone. To reach from the bottom right to top left I have to rotate my hand (And I have fairly large hands as a 6' 1" male.)

The swipe to go back gesture will help a lot with this, but not entirely. I do hope Apple adds something similar to swype for the keyboard though as it is a lot nicer for one handed typing when walking around.

I Have an IPhone 5 but used an IPhone 4 for the first times for ages and can say it was a real pleasure to use.

I would definitely would not like the new iPhone to become bigger. Texting with one hand would be very hard.

Give me the 4.7" screen. I always found the 4" screen too small. I saw a iPhone 3GS the other day, and was shocked at how small the 3.5" screen looks.

Ill stay with the 4" screen. IMO its a phone first. If they can squeeze in a bigger screen into the same footprint I'm on board.

There are smaller flip phones if it's a phone first for you.

To me it's a phone +, I welcome a larger one.

Cue the miniature pants people saying the projected 4.7 at between 2.3 and 2.4 inches wide won't for in their pockets, when in reality their pockets are probably closer to 6 inches wide.

----------

4.7 is probably the best overall size. Anything larger is a plasma tv.

Damn, I didn't make it in before the idiotic statements started.

That's like saying anything bigger than a hot wheels is a full sized car.

My job requires me to bent squat and kneel a lot. Even the 4" screen digs into me sometimes. I wear carpenter jeans with very large pockets.

I've worked construction John, doing the same kinds of moving (and more), and ANYTHING in your pockets can dig you. Even a bic lighter, small stuff. The 5s is 58.6 mm wide and the 4.7 is projected to be 66mm. That's some less than a cm or 0.29" so not really a big difference.

I was also directing my comment at the usual suspects complaining about a larger iphone FITTING in their pockets, a ridiculous argument. Like a smaller phone? Fine, everyone is different and I hope everyone gets their size. But not fitting in pockets is a bogus argument. I have a 4" iphone and it's really too small for me, but I live with it and don't spew the hate done by those that threaten suicide over anyone else getting a size phone they like. I don't get it.

A belt case for this type of work is a MUST in my case anyway. I also carried nothing in my pockets and out everything in a belt pouch. Squatting and kneeling a lot even a lighter, wallet, coins, keys or anything in my pockets poked me. I also used carpenter jeans a lot, sometimes overalls. Anything in there bothered/poked me.

I'm guessing you don't like the idea but I highly recommend a maxpedition for work. Either a minumum belt phone case. I used the top one (in black) that I wore horizontall and a Janus pouch on my belt for everything else that could be added in to the strap on my Jumbo LEO Versipack that I used for other stuff I left in the truck (Yes I like maxpedition, so does the wife). Really not that obtrusive and no poking/digging.

I dont disagree at all with anything you say, not a fan of belt clips. But I still maintain the 4" is perfect for my needs. If I need to send or read an email or look something on the web I always have my iPad in the truck.:D So for me a larger phone is unnecessary. With that I hope Apple produces 3 sizes to please all consumers. If the new 6 does not come in 4" version my upgrade will be the 5s.

I wasn't trying to be argumentative, you seem level headed.:) I understand those that like small phones, but don't understand why some think they are the only people on the planet.

I don't like belt cases either, but I made an exception for work. Well, back in the bag phone days I didn't use one.:)

I'm with you, I hope everyone gets what they want. Unfortunately it's rare when that happens.

I post this again .... and again ... And again ...
If you can't see how ridiculous this is, you are in denial

This IS NOT what pocketable means in my world.
Those are not miniature pants or shirts, nor little men.

I would sell my iPhone 5s in a heart beat if they release a 4.7" iPhone.

With all the leaks that I have been seeing it looks like it's happening :D

I'm still really happy with my iPhone 4 and have to say I already had doubts about a 4.0 screen and the thin bezel especially because the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S feel quite fragile without a case compared to the 4. Which also so far has put me off from buying them.

As Max(IT) already posted any size bigger really looks ridiculous in my opinion. The only big screen phones most have around here are women who have a purse. Logical because putting a phone like that in your pants really looks ridiculous. I'm hoping for at least a good 4.0 option or else I might consider an iPhone 5S if one won't be released this cycle.

Why is it ridiculous, if the bigger size means you get more out of your phone? Screen size vs. 'pocketability' is simply a tradeoff. Some need a smaller phone, others benefit from having a bigger one. I don't see why people make such a huge deal of this and get so incredibly defensive over it. It's as if someone had threatened your whole way of life or something.

I absolutely love having my 5.5" Note 2 everywhere I go because of how well I can read, browse, watch videos, show my pictures to others, and most importantly write on it. It makes lugging a tablet along unnecessary 99% of the time. And this is far more important to me than being able to slide it into any shirt or pant pocket (it slides into the breast pocket of my jacket just fine, where noone even notices it).

There is no way I can go back to having a smaller screen now, the 5.5" format is just way too useful. So I'll be very happy if Apple go for the larger format too, because then I can consider buying an iPhone again.

Meanwhile, I hope that they keep the 4" format too, because I know others have more use for that size. And while they squint away at their phones when reading the news on the metro in the morning, while I keep my Note 2 at a relaxed distance just like a normal book, I don't feel the need to laugh at their choice.

No worries. I remember when everyone said the 3.5 screen was perfect for them, then they ran to upgrade to the iPhone 5.:D

4.7 with much smaller bezels. If HTC can accomplish seriously reduced bezels than so can Apple. And lets not forget the Sapphire glass plant Apple bought, is it possible they're moving the touch ID to the rear of the phone.

I can understand your need for a phablet. I'm considering a phablet for myself (intrigued by the Lumia 1520), a secondary phone.
I'm just arguing that a phablet isn't something that you throw in your pocket without thinking, like some apologists are trying to demonstrate.
It's a trade off, as you said.
But I can't just live with a phone that big every day.
Most of the time I have no problem, but there are days when I just go "jeans and tshirt" and a phablet could be a problem.
The one hand operation is another issue for me, there are tons of occasions when I'm quite busy and I need to take the phone from my pocket, unlock it, do something like a call or message, with a single hand.
I tried with a Note 3, a Lumia 1320 and an Lg and I can't do something like that with one hand for sure.
And I'm an absolutely normal guy, with average hands and toes.

The 4 inch screen was a welcome upgrade from my 5s. That being said I use my device for a bunch of reading (flipboard, Facebook, and other news articles) so the bigger screen will also be very welcome.
