are you joking or are you serious? Are you allowed to walk around with a gun in your pocket over there?

Here in Melbourne, Australia, we get arrested if we are caught carrying a knife.

He's not joking. We are allowed to carry arms. It's our constitutional right.

Different gun laws in different states. Some allow for concealed carry. In others, like mine (California), it's almost impossible to get a concealed carry permit.....which is a shame. Anyway, I'm glad I don't live in Australia, as I like the ability to defend myself.

Oh......I like the glass back. ;)

I have guns in my house.. but no handguns.. there are strict laws to get a handgun licence.. but I'm not allowed to carry mine around the city with me.. can use them in country areas though for shooting rabbits, kangaroos, etc.

Actually you can get a permit if you are a celebrity or extremely wealthy, or both, like me.

I do like the aesthetics of it, but I'd rather a plastic or aluminum backing.

I have the same preference. When I saw the phone at WWDC, I loved the look. Also it fits my preference of using it without a case. With the silver antenna surrounding the phone it's beautiful. Yet sadly, that went out the window when it became apparent a bumper was required. Since it covers both the antenna and the beautiful glass edges, all style & looks have been destroyed. It now looks about the same as any other phone when viewed from just a few feet away.

That said, I would prefer a sturdy black CFRP back. CFRP is Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic. A very nice looking matte black composite material. Lightweight, and extremely durable it does not dent like aluminum. It's extremely scratch resistant as well.

Love it. I always use a case, and glass goes very well with it. Plastic is stained too easily.

I like it a lot. It makes the phone feel sturdier than the 3GS, and the first gen as well. I have a bumper on now, and a BSE in the mail, so it's fully protected. It makes the device very sleek

No. It'd be one thing if it looked good, but it doesn't. It's ugly, scratch, crack, and fingerprint prone. I think the iPhone 4 is great, and I'd even tolerate the antenna issue, but the back is a dealbreaker.

Looks and feels amazing. Got a case on my phone because I have a kid and I already miss the naked phone.

Do I like it based on sturdiness? NO.
Do I like it based on aesthetics and feel? YES.
+1. Amen.

This answer is similar to how it feels when I hold the phone. It isn't all that comfortable with the sharp edges and I'm glad I got a black bumper. The bumper does give it a sleek look even though it lacks any real protection. But hot damn, this phone is sexy as hell!

No creaks. Nothing feels cheap. Sleek and shiny on both sides. This phone is like jewelry and definitely looks like a $1000 phone. The only phone that makes me paranoid if I drop it and how it might attract unwanted attention from potential thieves. So my answer is YES, but based mostly on aesthetics perspective and nothing more.

Yes.

The iphone 4 is an aesthetical masterpiece, largely due to the revisions surrounding the hardware used in its design. Eye candy is a gross injustice regarding its appeal.

The 3GS was, (prior to i4) the foundational example of beauty in a cellular platform. It now looks bulky & somewhat cheapened with its plasticity. Don't confuse my opinions as being critical, for next to every device without an Apple logo the GS is still top pedigree.

I guess what I'm saying is that I love the glass back.

I love it. Sure, can be a bit fingerprinty/scratch resistant but to me it's worth it for the design.

I keep a designated pocket specifically for my iPhone (right side). NOTHING else touches that pocket.

In my experience with owning a 3g iPhone, 3GS and now an iPhone 4 and it being naked 24/7, I've never even encountered more then a bit of lint on the screen. Both the front/backs have always remained scratch free.

You just have to take care of it, like you would any other device that costs over 500$. Why wouldn't you if you're investing that amount of money on something?

People think everything should be scratch free/drop resistant. If you want something like that, buy a cheap phone from Motorola/Nokia. iPhone's are meant to look great, not be idiot-proof.

Need more options.

I'm torn.

Yes, I like it, it's nifty/cool.

The practical side of me says ***** that, they should have made it out of something that could handle abuse better (who cares if the back of my phone is scratched, it doesn't affect use. But it shattering would easily affect use).

So, I can't tell you. The emotional side says yes, the practical logical side says no.

Some one dropping a phone doesn't make them an idiot and it doesn't mean they aren't careful. It's called when you have a small object that is picked up and moved around a lot, stuff happens.

And who cares if the phone is beautiful if it is broken and unusable? I'd rather have a scratched up back (plastic seems more prone to that) and maybe even a crack vs. a shattered back that would probably not protect the internals very well in a drop either making the phone unusable.

Well, I say that, but as my post above states, part of me still thinks its nifty. But my practical side says I'm being stupid. Cause yes, sorry, I do think it's stupid to pick the cool design over the one that is made for actual use.

I voted no just for durability purposes. I'm utilitarian by nature. If I can't use it liberally, I usually don't want it. My 1st gen iPhone stood up well, for 2.5 years as a matter of fact, so we'll see how well this one does.

I think it looks amazing, nothing even compares, but there's already a lot of one and done dropped iPhone4's.

Beats the crap out of the ****ty plastic back I dealt with for two years. I am still most fond of the original iPhone's design, although it wasn't good for reception issues.

I know what you mean.

My eyes is telling me, hell yeah! Of course it looks good! Arguably the best looking iPhone (or cell phone) ever!

But some of my own intuition, insecurities, and logic is telling me "no."

The answer can go either way depending which perspective you want to answer it. I've been pretty careful with some of my phones, but in other cases I did drop some of them on concrete/carpet or lost it somewhere. Even my 2G, I dropped it on concrete. The aluminum back was not immune to nasty, dark scratches that showed its true colors from underneath when scraped. But while I dropped my 2G iPhone, it didn't shatter either! It kept on ticking...

This is a polarizing iPhone. Many will either love it or hate it. If Apple does go back to the older look, this version will standout as very unique to have both sides as glass. Like the 3rd gen iPod back in 2003. As they say, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. I could have a different answer in one year if my phone shatters in the back from a one foot drop. Right now, mine is still pristine and still looking good! Once the battle scar start showing up and the honeymoon phase is over with all the coddling, I could change my answer.

Where's the:

[ ] I would like the glass back if the actual antennas had been embedded in the glass back itself like radio antennas are in car windshields

option? :D
