For those who don't want to add the bulk of a case, but want the extra scratch protection, here's my post from another thread:

In case you missed the gizmodo post on the subject:
Gelaskins is already selling skins (with pre-cut holes, mind you) that also supposedly alleviate the signal issue by covering the outer edge/antenna. If you know gelaskins, you know they already have some pretty nice designs from various artists printed, also allowing you to submit your own custom design. Once I get my iP4, I'll strongly consider this as I hate the added bulk of cases, bumpers... :)

I don't know about you guys, but my 3G had the infamous hairline stress cracks. Those things would turn into giant crappy cracks if dropped or subjected to heat. At some point, I felt a lot better about dropping the phone on the glass side, as I knew it wouldn't crack / scratch as easy.

After owning and dropping so many iPhones, I'm fine with the glass back. I feel even better about it now that I know the glass back is easy to replace!

This is a polarizing iPhone. Many will either love it or hate it. If Apple does go back to the older look, this version will standout as very unique to have both sides as glass. Like the 3rd gen iPod back in 2003. As they say, too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. I could have a different answer in one year if my phone shatters in the back from a one foot drop. Right now, mine is still pristine and still looking good! Once the battle scar start showing up and the honeymoon phase is over with all the coddling, I could change my answer.

On the other hand, I'm pretty sure I sold my 3rd generation ipod pretty quick cause she really wanted 3rd gen (I don't blame her, if the new one didn't have so many good features, I prefer the form of the 3rd gen, it fits in a pocket so much better). So sometimes even though it has its haters having a unique form can also be good cause it will also have people looking for it specifically.

I am not a huge fan - worried about breaking it. The first week I had the phone I wasnt sold on it. I dont like the way it feels in my hand compared to the 3G/3GS - they are easier to hold. I broke down and bought a bumper for it (I was not a fan of the look at first) and now I really like the way it feels.

The sharp/hard edges are a little uncomfortable but the bumper makes it much easier to hold. I am still not sold on the glass though - it just feels like it is waiting to shatter or crack. I try to take care of my phones as best I can but accidents do happen...

Some one dropping a phone doesn't make them an idiot

I didn't mean it that way. Something not being idiot proof is slang for misuse where I'm from. Bit of a harsher term but I didn't mean if you drop your phone you're an idiot.

This phone is like jewelry and definitely looks like a $1000 phone.
Yes it is gorgeous. I know of a few people who's iPhone 4's _will_ end up costing them a cool $1,000 by the time they pay to have the glass replaced everytime they drop it. :)

One them dropped theirs on day two. While getting out of the car, he forgot it was in his lap, it hit the ground and shattered. So much for the bumper saving it.

I like it as long as I have a bumper to keep it from resting totally on any surface.

I kinda hated it before I got the bumper. Had to baby the phone.

I voted no. I'd compromise a little scratch resistance for something with more impact resistance. A small scratch here and there is better than a completely shattered rear panel.
