When I initially got my iPhone X, I used to accidentally 'press' the bottom of the phone harder than I used to, expecting a button. It was kinda weird at first.

But you grow out of it pretty soon. Now it feels like a chore having one there. I was toying around with an android phone at the store one day and as soon as I saw those android home buttons, I was like 'ugh!' what is that!?

10 days in, I miss the home button a bit.

FaceID is great when it works on the first try, which for me is about 2/3 of the time. When it doesn't, it takes longer than TouchID and in a few cases (with apps, like my banking app) if it doesn't recognize me I have to enter my password, a strong password that's impossible to remember.

I'm optimistic that FaceID will improve over time either with software updates or because it will better learn to recognize me in more different contexts.

I'm also optimistic that the FaceID hardware will be better in future iPhones, the way TouchID on the 6S and later was way faster and more reliable than TouchID on the first few iPhones that had it.

Gestures are mostly easy to remember, but a few are not and I have to go online and google "how to <do a particular task like restart> iPhone X".

Lastly, I don't like the horizontal line that appears at the bottom of the screen. I love that you can swipe it horizontally to cycle through currently running apps. But in some apps, such as games you play in landscape mode, it is a visual intrusion. Yes, this is a very small annoyance. And maybe Apple will make the line fade away in future iOS versions once it believes that iPhone X users are smart enough to know how to swipe horizontally along the bottom of the screen without the line to guide us.

All of the above complaints are fairly minor, though. Mostly, I love the X and I love that the absence of the home button means more of the surface area can be used for the screen.

If I feel the need for a home button, I pick up my iPad Air 2 and play with it until the craving goes away!
