I liked the look of the polished edges better, though the matted edges don't look bad. And while I'm actually using the phone, I don't even notice.

I have to say, I'm a bit surprised that Apple didn't already drop the polished chamfered edges with the lower priced iPod Touch which seems to be on its last legs as a supported product, or at least do it quietly and simultaneously with the release of the SE.

As I recall from the iPhone 5 keynote, Apple goes to extra expense and pains to polish those edges. So for the SE this is clearly a cost saving move. But the SE is likely to outsell the iPod Touch significantly. So it's surprising the iPod Touch still has them, and somewhat dissapointing for those of us who miss the polished chamfered edges on the SE. Especially when you consider all of Apple's iPads have the polished chamfers too.

So what does this mean? Will Apple eventually go matte on all of their products, or are they about to discontinue the chamfer? Seems unlikely since they just released two models of the iPad Pro with them. Maybe they will eventually drop the polished edges on the previous generation products when depreciated?

Checked out the SE to see how similar the new models are to the 5s, and first thing I felt about the matte chamfers: cheap.

Pulled out my recently unlocked gold 5s to show off the beautiful (premium) polish. Enjoy

to those who had the 5/5s and went with the se. Do u miss the polished chamfered edge compared to the matte on the se? I'm kinda wanting to get the se but I don't want to give up my 5s because it was the first gold iPhone and there's a history to it.
Really? Surprised you ever got past the first iPhone with that mindset , being the first iPhone and all lol

Regarding the edges, I have both and I really have no preference

What is up with your SIM tray? I think that makes your phone look a lot less premium than matte chamfered edges.

That's what I was thinking. It's like he smashed that thing in there.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm

No. It's a clear skin. Notice antennae break. Also have a glass back protector installed, for that even-more-premium feel. Though it seems to bring out the machine lines more visibly.

Ahh okay. Just seemed like you had a bad day and shoved your SIM tray into the side. :p

I don't like the polished look. Every time I pull my iPad out of the case I'm reminded of it.

I don't miss it, and to be honest, I have a case on my SE, just like the cases I used on prior iPhones.

Granted I used an Apple leather case on both my old 5S and my new SE, but I still can't even tell the difference between the two casings--either in the edges OR in the supposed change in the Apple logo on the back?? Feels like an Emperor's New Clothes conspiracy going on here : )

Those air bubbles aren't so premium :D

No it looks nice, what brand is the all-around skin?

I like both really, my iPad Pro has the polished edge and my iPhone SE has the matte edge, best of both.

Tenks, mang. :) It's from Skinomi, bought the full skin but only used the side wrap. Would normally use the backskin, too, but decided to think different and try a glass one to pay homage to the 4/4s. Front glass is another generic brand 0.2 2.5d edge screen protector.

Has anyone tried to swap their SE back into the old 5 or 5s case?

According to the amaze folks discussing on iFixit, appears that everything seems to line up with the screw posts for the 5s/SE. They were going to verify, but I couldn't find an update. Mang. Here's a pic iFixit posted of the three, taken by Creative Electron:

The longer I have the matte edges, the more I miss the polished ones.

I had a feeling I would probably feel the same. Could only imagine how the Rose Gold SE would look with polished edge.

Which brings me to an amazing story I had one day. I was just out and about a couple weekends ago, picking up a banana split at Sonic. I normally rest whatever iPhone I'm using on my passenger seat or cup-holder, and happened to be using my 5s that day. Suddenly, I glanced at my passenger side and noticed how the sides of my 5s, resting on top of my MacBook bag, were glistening against the pouring light, and it instantly struck a chord in my heart. I carelessly pulled out my 6s to take the photos below, and capture this shining moment.

See for your self

The only thing I have to say to this is...

Which Sonic are you going to that still has banana splits? Mine took them off the menu last year.
