seems like a lot of the "yes" votes are from people who have PCs that predate their mac days. Which makes sense... as I posted before, I really can't see why you'd have one now since a mac will do both windows and OS X. Except for gamers who want something cheap but still powerful, while using OS X for everything else. Then a homebuilt PC + a low cost mac might make some sense.

Still have the pc I put together about 8 years ago with a 600mhz p3 processor. :cool:

Annoyingly for some reason its suddenly gone dead slow and have yet to find a reason why :(

And if I did get it working dont know what I would use it for still?

As a longtime PC user, I can't say that I have one currently (my PC laptop bit the dust and I never replaced it) but this summer I hope to build a PC.. I don't get all the Windows hatred.

I have an older Dell laptop running Debian and XP. Sooner or later I'll replace it with a MacBook or MBP, but until then this POS will have to suffice when I'm on the road.

I have a Fujitsu PC laptop, a Toshiba PC laptop, an IBM Thinkpad PC laptop, and a Sony VAIO PC laptop. Aside from the Toshiba being useless, they have caused me no problems. I have seven PCs being given to me by a friend of my mother's.

Also, my iPod touch with 1.1.3 was jailbroken on a PC! Marathon session from 10PM to 1:30AM. :rolleyes:

Currently at home, I have:

Desktop
- Macs --> 4
- PCs --> 2

Laptop
- Macs --> 2
- PCs --> 1

I have:

Desktop
- Macs --> 0
- PCs --> 3

Laptop
- Macs --> 1
- PCs --> 3

The reason I got a MacBook instead of an iMac is because I like building my own PC's. If I'm going to own a Mac, it might as well be something I couldn't have built a PC counterpart for anyway:p

... I don't get all the Windows hatred.

I've been guilty of hating Windows upon occasion (guess that makes me somewhat of a hypocrite since I have four PC's running it:eek: (for those counting the other two systems are running Linux only) ). That being said, all operating systems have their advantages, even Windows, so I agree with you that Windows isn't nearly bad enough to hate exclusively. Best I can figure is that Micro$oft is such a big target (especially after their monopoly practices) that some hating is bound to happen.

I'm one of those rare people that can say that "I've been a Mac user my whole life". Until I got iWork for my MacBook (and when I had that PowerBook G3) I had to use my step mom's PC for school work. I still have to use PC's at school which, BTW really suck.

as have i and then i built my own pc for gaming/work purposes.

i dont believe in brand loyalty. i believe in getting stuff that accomplishes what i want

Too many PCs really,

Desktops:

Compaq P4 2.4ghz XP used to connect my film scanner via SCSI (It wouldn't fit into my Mac Mini), it also uses a program called Easy Thumbnails which i've yet to see a program that produces clear thumbs as good as this for for Mac.

HP Vectra P4 1.7 XP - used as a store for some PC images (Ghost server) - not worth selling to be honest.

2x HP P4 2.8ht XP - One was my main PC, the other was a Webserver (ran 2003 server for a while). The Mac Mini replaced both

Laptops:

HP Omnibook 6100 XP - I should bin this really
Toshiba (thing from work) Ubuntu - It is a work XP laptop, but I stuck Ubuntu on it just to see what it's like - Seems o.k. The idea is this is a guest computer, if people want to surf they can use this.

Macs: Mac Mini and Macbook

Yup.

Have an old Pentium 4 sitting under the desk that hasn't been used in at least 2 years. May eventually become a file server.

Also have a media center PC sitting under my TV which I built a few months ago - dual-core AMD X2 processor, hdmi and optical output, running Media Portal (just switched from Vista MCE).

I much prefer my Macs for most tasks, though.

I know there's a few old Dells and Compaqs lying around in the basement somewhere, possibly propping up furniture.

And one IBM PC/AT, which is most certainly not propping up any furniture.

The options should have been as follows, in which case I would have voted for option 2:

  • Yes, and use it.
  • Yes, and don't use it.
  • No, and don't use one.
  • No, but use one.

I bought my PC after owning a few Macs. It's been quite useful to me at times, but now that I have Parallels and BootCamp, it's been collecting dust. However the other day I found a new use for it by hooking it up to my TV to watch Netflix movies. Now I just need to replace the fan because it's too loud. Any suggestions?

At last count...
22 Macs
4 SGIs
3 Suns
2 PCs (none using Microsoft software)
The only PC that gets used at all anymore is my ThinkPad (running Rhapsody 5.1), the second PC (a DEC Celebris) is in storage, though I'm thinking about using it for Solaris now that I found out it supports more memory (my best SPARCstation is used for OPENSTEP 4.2).

Until Apple offers a good mid range tower I will always own a PC tower which will cover my needs for a lot less than what it would cost to get an apple desktop to do it. (iMac does not meet my needs and the Power mac is over kill)

But I do love my mac book.

A Mac is a 'PC'. It's even nearly an 'IBM-Compatible PC' these days. The need to make a distinction like this is beyond me.

I have my PC that I got in '02 I believe... I never use it anymore since it is such a PITA. Will never buy another PC unless I absolutely have to. ;)

Yep, I have a Gateway desktop that I purchased in February 2003. It still runs, and handles the limited things that I want it for. I am hoping to replace it this year with a Mac.
