I just realized that I voted wrong. I said I own both, but that's not really true. I have a little PC that I turn on every month or two to mess around with, but technically it's my brother's and he's just letting me borrow it. He has a G4, so he has no use for the PC, and I wanted to play around with Linux on it. Technically though, I only own Macs. I have owned PCs in the past (before I switched), but I sold my last one to get the money to buy my PowerBook.

I have a Vaio running Me and my beloved PB. I would get rid of the Vaio, but as of the last time I checked, it still functions (as long as I do a clean install at least once every four-six months).

I do need to figure out a way to get rid of it without feeling like I'm wasting money...

my last windows machine

....was 10/02...11/02. i bought my first mac/Powerbook and that was the end of PC.

it was a Dell Inspirion/8500 P3/700mhz 15"

PB 15" 1.67ghz/1gram
wht nano 4gb

I have a powerbook (MBP coming next month) and an old Dell laptop running XP. I barely use the windoze lappy but mainly because my desk is usually a whirlwind of papers and books and I really only have room for my PB and my external flatscreen (also a Dell). I keep the old Dell around mainly for PC only websites (those that run better in windows explorer, although nowadays they are few and far between) and for some palm apps that don't work properly on my mac.

Install linux on it, and then you won't need to do a clean install on it ever four to six months. Linux is clean and provides a lot of performance. Great for a second machine.. Even if you only run it as a Folding machine.

I have both, but I only use my Mac. My PC is at home and I only use it to transfer files and download stuff

I use a Dell to give me some Windows insight. I'm an OS-oholic and I like to keep on top of what both Microsoft and Apple are doing (or not doing).

So you have three, then, Jew? :)

I use Windows at work and school. But the funny impact is I've still spent almost no time with XP, since everything has always been on Win2k.

I do have a Windows Mobile handheld, though.

Yeah, a Dell desktop, and then the iBook and iMac. My girlfriend sat down one day and tried to work out whether I spend more on her in a year or more on computers. She still wins.

Hehehe, can we *talk* about the fact that you're a 603? ;) :D Apparently it's a solid two horse race between your computers and your woman. :p

My windows machine is a pentium 3. About to die, but still works for the wife's e-mail and the kids games. My next purchase will probably expunge dell boxes from my domicile altogether. Especially if VPC or VMWare get their act together and support Intel macs. Then whenever I need to work from home, I won't have to do it on cheap sucky hardware...

I have VPC on my PB now, but it is almost unusable, especially for development. It does work in a pinch, however.

:p

wow, congrats on your 603!

i guess i will join you sometime next year on that level...but by then, you could be in 604 territory ;)

Thanks buddy. :)

I'm not sure if congratulations is the right word though... :p

wow, and you have been here only about 2 years...i have been here forever...except for some of the gods and kainjow...and i won't see 10,000 posts until the end of this year at the very earliest

i wonder where 603e is, or if there is even such a rank

and 604 should be around 12,500 or 15,000 posts i think

I guess technically the Mac is my husband's. I have a Toshiba laptop running Windows XP for my personal computer. I also have a Dell Precision 650 workstation for work. Soon to be coming (sooner, hopefully, rather than later) is a Sun machine--also for work. I can't wait for the day. I miss typing in all those Unix commands and just feeling the power and control surge from my fingertips with every keystroke..... Soon....very soon....

lots of both. for the day-to-day humdrum of fixing windows boxes, nothing beats having a windows box loaded with lots of bug removers and password recovery stuff, and the ever necessary file recovery thingy. using an imaging program, i image my drive, fix customer stuff and get overrun by bugs and worms and the like, i re-image my drive, make more coffee, and start again.

fun. then i turn on my g5, surf, play, watch, laugh, cry, and turn it off, same as it ever was. why does anyone buy pc's? even at half the price, the 2-5 sevice calls a month just to keep the things running makes for way more expensive equipment over just a very short time?!!! i feel bad for them, but never mention buying a mac as i would have no job if everyone had a mac
