Ok we'll you're obviously super-rich but if I needed that stuff I'd just maybe buy at the most a 64g mini and a 64g 4 and simply use folders for the various needs. And on your transcontinental flights just bring both. Mini for games, retina for movies.

Even seems more efficient from a time/usage perspective- you're only syncing half the devices, you have to remember to check on less devices, you dont have to re-read email titles just because there's a new blue dot on another device, Etc. the only downside is you have to remember the device like you remember car keys. But that becomes habit after 2-3 weeks.

Anyway, if you can roll like that more power, but just because you can doesn't mean you have to.

And if you're joking oops ya got me.

I have both. The 4 is good as a laptop replacement (I have an iMac upstairs, but no laptop), and the mini is great for travelling/commuting. If I'm going away for a long period then I can take the 4 instead.

Also, depending on how much content you actually have you can even sync both ipads to the same backup.

Like i syncd both iPads to the same backup so no matter what device I use I'll know where everything is without being like "is that app on THIS ipad or the other?" "...oh that's right, that folders on my other one" etc.

I even went so far as to at least replicate the folders on my iPhone- there are different apps there but I know the productivity folder is always top row, third from the left. I know that the Photoshop app is always in my Create: Visual folder and that folders 3 down, 2 over.

It's definitely a luxury to have both iPads. The way I justify it is that the mini is my notebook/sketch pad and the 4 is the "iPad Pro" for lack of a better term. Photo/video processing will happen on that, I'll take that to "client meetings" etc.

Actually the 4 is my outside home device. It is easily light and portable enough.

Home? I'd have to say the majority of residences use a PC or a larger sized laptop they don't use elsewhere.

I had a 3 when I bought the mini. Had every intention to upgrade to the 4 as well. But I quickly realized I'll be using the mini 80% of the time since its such a great device size. So I'm going to certainly wait until at least a much lighter 5/6 comes out to upgrade my 3.

Kind of. I have the 4th gen and my GF found some Minis in stock at a BB mobile store so she grabbed one. Now I have both to play with, her and the Mini! :D

K. I'm just sayin, it's kinda impractical and just doing it for the sake of being flossy rather than it being the most effective utilization.

Are they different colors at least?

Having both is fine if you have a family.
I use the ipad 3 at home while my wife and kid share the mini.
When i go out and around I take the mini and leave them the iPad 3.

Works out great.

That said- the mini really needs a screen upgrade.
Once that happens - goodbye 9.7

I have the iPhone 5 and the iPad 4 (upgrade from the 2). I feel like having the mini wouldn't really serve a purpose. I have something small and portable (iPhone) and I have something larger for browsing, games and relaxing at home. The only thing I could see the mini being nice for personally is as a reader because its so light. But I have a Kindle for that so there is no need. I'm happy with my setup.

This is what I'm thinking about doing.

I currently just have an iPad mini. I'm considering an iPad 4.

Yet here is this very thread.

Redundancy extraordinaire.

It's hard enough for the majority of the public to see a place for the original iPad, let alone two that are less than 2" apart in size. I stand by my comment that having both is just fanboyism for the sake of fanboyism. Justify it however you want, but there isn't a person alive who needs both and you are lying to yourself if you think you need two.

Want is another story, but then it's just wasting money for utter redundancy.

Jealous, know-it-all, or both :)

No, what purpose would owning both the iPad and the iPad mini serve, exactly? Completely unnecessary in my opinion.

You're implying that the iPad itself isn't good for traveling? It's a completely portable device, and no one would have argued against that up until the recent release of the iPad mini. If you don't have a laptop then you can use the iPad as a laptop replacement and for what it is - a portable tablet. Getting a mini as a portable tablet (and also owning an iPad) is completely unnecessary, realistically speaking.

Totally agree. It's like folks never carried the bigger brothers around to use it away from home.

I was going to say the same thing,if someone can afford it,then it's up to them what they do with their money.
Just because someone else can't doesn't give them the right to lecture everyone else on how they spend their money.
Me,I proudly own a 16gb white ipad 4 and a 16gb White ipad mini, and I worked hard for my money.I use the ipad 4 at home as my main device and the mini I take with me as my portable companion when I have to travel.
So they each have their own purposes and work out very well for me.

I did use it away from home and while i love the device, hated taking it out. It's large enough to draw attention, more risk of damage, etc. it was something I would do if I needed to.

The mini I bought with the specific purpose of taking it everywhere like a reporters notebook. It serves the function of a sketchbook, notebook, and entertainment consumption device. The 4 is for photography editing and video rendering (there are some cool cheap effect apps for the ipad), a second computer screen, and the luxury portable entertainment device. The mini isn't as nicely suited for visuals and processor heavy functions like video rendering.

I concede its a bit much and it's not absolutely necessary but they are 2 distinct and separate devices with different uses. If I had to choose I'd keep the 4 and sacrifice carrying one everywhere because the 4 does everything functionally.

Now, having FOUR iPads, 2 of each, just seems absolutely redundant and silly.

If you're going to go that far why not just buy one for every room, or better yet several for every room. the kitchen fridge ipad is for recipes and notes for the family, the cabinet ipad is for inventory and cleaning schedules.

And why not just request that the concierge leave an ipad in your hotel so you don't have to take the one you brought with you out of the bag?

more than 1 iPad/person is rather weird and this coming from someone with way too much Apple stuff as it is.

Yeah can you explain why you think so? I only ask because you seem to have several iMacs and even a few ipads

Again, the mini is portable enough to bring everywhere, something I could never bring myself to do with the 4, and the 4 is a powerhouse and can do things better and faster than the mini. Having both is a luxury but not impractical.

A friend of mine has 6 iPads and never paid for any of them. He's in sales and different companies have given them to him.

I actually have 3 8GB iPod touches. Is that weird? 2 of them sit in Bose sounddocks. There is no music in either of them, I use home sharing to pull my music up and stream it from my computer. The reason I don't use my phone is because it takes several minutes to load up my shared library so I like to leave my music on pause and when I come into the bedroom I hit play on my Bose remote and the music starts immediately and I dont have to wait several minutes for home sharing to pull up my huge music library

The other I use as my living remote control. I turn off auto-lock when im using it and with the l5 app and accessory I control my entertainment console.

Last year I had 2 160 gig iPod classics in two different rooms and my living room a Logitech harmony remote. When I learned about home sharing and iTunes match and got the L5 app I sold the harmony remote and the 2 iPod's on Amazon and use the money to buy 3 8gb 4th generation iPod touches

I'm curious if people think that's strange. I wanted to be able to walk in a room hit a button and play my music without running around moving an iPod touch from room to room

It's fine if you take a bag with you, but it's too large for commuting if you don't happen to have a bag. The mini fits perfectly in my jacket pocket, so I can take it everywhere. The 4 is a brilliant tablet, just too large to be taken with you all the time. It's just my opinion anyway!

I didn't. If i was going away for a prolonged period i'd take it, but for just traveling between offices unless I was carrying a bag with me, the full size ipad (to me), was too large. I had a playbook (now for sale) which i used to use if i didn't want to carry too much bulk.

It's just my opinion anyway. I'll keep the 4 as it's a much better tablet which i'll use at home, and if i'm staying in a hotel. The mini just suits me better for when i'm traveling throughout the day.

Agree 100%. I always hated getting the ipad out when traveling as it draws so much attention - and I was paranoid about dropping it! The mini works far better when traveling - but the 4 is a better (more powerful) device.

My original iPad 1 (3g) is with me everywhere I go, and has been practically glued to me since day 1.

I have it in a case, and carry it around like I used to carry around my day-planner, a magazine or a book.

It draws no attention. It's a lot less obtrusive than a laptop.

I have the original iPad case, and when I use it, I'm propping it up at a low angle on a table, and I'm reading the USA Today, magazines or web sites when I'm out at lunch.

It's always in my car, and I use it all the time in down-time situations. It's a lot easier to use for web-surfing than my phone. It's always stored right next to the center console slipped between the seats. Because it's so thin, I can slip it between the console and the seat - something I could never do with a laptop. And you can't tell it's there at all with the black case on it.

I would never buy a wi-fi iPad - makes no sense for me. I like the always-connected part of the iPad, and that makes the iPad an iPad to me. There is no other device that offers a large easy to read and navigate screen, with the portability the iPad offers.
