Your fingers don't touch beneath the keys. Just wipe the bits you come in contact with and forget about the rest.

BTW, looking around the loudspeaker the rest of that iBook also needs a damn good clean.

Any chance of some before and after pics?

Hey, I know this may be a little crazy, but I think I'm just going to throw it away. The dirtiness has really turned me off, and I'd rather not bother. blech

Why not just grab a new keyboard off ebay? It's an ibook! Those are easy to replace.

I don't bother with keyboard covers - a new keyboard for my vaio laptop costs $35 on ebay >> lol :D

The base (not the keyboard) is coated with a foul-smelling layer of food and hair. It smells, bad, and I tried wiping it, but it's like the crap has become permanently stuck to the plastic. YUCK

Can I ask what you paid for that filthy, disgusting iBook that you are now thinking of tossing out?

$310 including shipping. :(

It looked so nice in the pictures, and the seller had great ratings (by the way, I've left a negative review... I think he deserved it).

Oh yeah, he definitely deserved a negative review.

I don't know how people can just throw something in a box and make zero effort to make it presentable.

this has really taught me never to buy used unless i can inspect the item myself. the mouse is broken as well. it's weird, his other positive reviews were actually from years ago.

That looks very disgusting! I replace my keyboard (usually every year around Thanksgiving). I usually take the entire keyboard apart and clean it up every six months, or if I spill something and a button gets sticky. It's never very dirty but it's peace of mind knowing it's clean.

By the way, my older keyboards usually go to work or get donated to my friends. My current keyboard however, I have had longer than any other keyboard, it's really comfortable for me.

Yeah, that's the gist of buying electronics on eBay. Either buy it new or for parts only. Everything in-between I tend to skip.

On the other hand, you purchased a used laptop. Most people selling those don't even bother cleaning the hard disk of their data, much less go under the keyboard. Not very surprising at all. Just use some compressed air and isopropyl alcohol and you'll be fine.

Exactly. Different people also have different standards of acceptable cleanliness.
