Coming from an 8 plus, to a Max....

I never pocket dialed anybody with my 8 plus. But with my new Max, its happening every day.

I work construction, and use my phone lots all day text, phone calls, etc. I'm very habitual. Been using iPhones forever. I always lock my phone before putting it in my right front pocket (with nothing else in it).

With the new Max, I pocket dial, or text, or am inputting passcode numbers in the lock screen in my pocket all day long. Sometimes I hear the typing through my AirPods after locking/sticking it in my jeans pocket.

Its happening a lot this work week, since I got my Max last Friday.

Any help? Its really annoying and may make me end up returning a kick ass phone.

Pants pockets aren’t thick enough so contact with skin registers. Put it with the screen facing out. Or get a pouch you can stick the phone in before putting it into your pocket. It puts another layer between the phone and your leg.

I'm not getting a "pouch". I'm not carrying anything on my hip, or gonna deal with having to remove/insert it into a pouch, then my pocket. I work in pool construction. The phone is in and out of my pocket all day. Over and over.

Ive been doing the same thing, all day, every day for many years. With an iPhone. All of a sudden, since getting the Max, I'm pocket texting/dialing/typing random stuff.

Edit..it always goes into my right front pocket with the screen in, not out.

So put the screen facing out. That’ll help, like @rijc99 said.

To answer your question, when I’m wearing pockets, my iPhone XS goes in my right pocket, upside down, screen facing in. I’ve never inadvertently dialed anyone, with this phone or any other.

I have had my Max for a few days and no pocket dialing or anything like that. Do a hard reset and see if that helps or bring it to the Apple store. Somehow maybe your screen is possibly staying on.

pocket dialing/texting shouldnt happen if you lock your phone before putting it into the pocket. it is highly improbably that you can unlock your phone while it's sitting in your pocket. if this is happening, then something is obviously very wrong,

the bigger worry is that you are inputting your pin in your pocket. this might be due to the tap to wake function. either switch that off, or face your screen outwards like some others suggested.

If you have FaceID or even just a passcode enabled, I don’t understand how you can inadvertently be unlocking your phone while it’s in your pocket.

Turn off tap to wake so the display isnt turning on every time it's bumped; and make sure screen timeout is set to a time and not forever keeping the phone unlocked.

But it's pretty impossible to input a PIN or use Face ID without touching the phone or taking it out of pocket. A capacitive screen cannot register through cloth.

It's literally impossible to pocket dial an iphone using biometrics.

I place mine in my left pocket with screen facing in and don’t have any pocket dials.

Same here. With a phone locked and Face ID I don't see how pocket dialing is really possible, unless somehow Siri is getting triggered.

I have always kept my iPhone in my front left pocket, top down, facing my leg and have never had a problem pocket dialing.

I had it happen a few times when I initially got my X, but for some reason never again. And not once with my Max yet.

OK, then keep doing what you're doing and get pocket dials...

thanks for the replies. Seems like I'm a bit alone here.

Phone has been reset a couple times (for other issues).

I know for a fact the screen is locked when I put it in my pocket. I started making totally sure after it happened a few times. The last time it happened I could hear the typing through my AirPods. Took the phone out of my pocket and I had inputted 2 numbers at the passcode screen.

"Auto lock" is set to the minimum 30 seconds. I always thought there was a "lock immediately" option but I don't see it.

Raise to wake is on. I guess I'll try to turn it off.

I'm not inclined to put the screen facing out when in my pocket. Cant risk breaking the screen if I bump up again some plumbing or whatever. Ive already cracked 3 Apple Watch screens in the last couple years. I can be hard on my devices.

When it happened to me it was the emergency contacts in Medical ID which can be accessed without unlocking the phone. Really annoying. I’ve turned off raise to wake and it happens less now.

My ipx almost daily. I find that it happens most when I hang up, often my favorites are still open. My hand will hit someone. Or if I stick it in my pocket without the screen being dark it will call someone

I have NEVER had an iPhone pocket dial until the 10 and 10s Max. The 10 pocket dialed when it was in my pocket totally at random (it had been in said pocket for an hour untouched prior), then my 10s Max pocket FaceTimed a friend WHILE I was running a marathon.

Ive had the FaceTime call twice.

Its good to know I'm not actually alone!

The phone has tap to wake (iphone 8 doesn't)... so contact with your skin through your pants pocket is making it think you're trying to wake the phone. Hence me telling you to put the phone in your pocket facing out or getting a sleeve for your phone so there is a thicker barrier between the screen and your leg. Apparently your pants pocket material isn't thick enough to prevent inadvertent touches.
