When I have been reading for awhile and start to get sleepy or bored, I check my mail and may play some solitaire. I like having those choices. My wife is already to kill me if I bring anymore books to my very crowded book cases. There is a lot of room on my computer for any number of books.:D

.....but with iBooks @ night I can read in total darkneed with the Black on White feature and even knock out knowing the iBook will not only turn off for me, but also remember my place on any device.

Kindle app has the ability to have white on black. It's awesome. My partner can't see the light in the early morning and it doesn't burn out your retinas just after you have woken up ;)

Stanza, nook, ereader all allow red on black, which is even better. I wish kindle would adopt that mode, since I would rather purchase my books from Amazon. I suspect that they will be around longer then B&N or Borders.

I haven't purchased a paper books in about 4 years. Ebooks are a big win. The ability to take hundreds of ebooks on military deployment (vs 5-6 paper books) have made my life much better. Being able to find an ebook in my library immediately instead of hunting through bookshelves and boxes for paper books is incredible.

Huh, that I didn't know. I will certainly check it out. Red on black would give of next to no light.

Yeah I can see how it would be a huge bonus for deployment. Ipad's should be standard issue :)

I haven't really used iBooks, and I rarely ever read in the first place. So, if I had to chose, it'd stick with a physical book, not because I don't like iBooks, but because I'm not used to it.

I only like reading real books because when ever I try to read an iBook I surf the web and do something else awesome that the iPad can do : P

I prefer eBooks over real books for saved storage space and the ability to look up dictionary/reference with ease

I like books from amazon's kindle store since they have a much larger selection than apple's ibooks.

Books? Not so much. Only book I got was from Amazon - since the actual book wasn't available here in the US yet.

Newspapers? Every day. PressReader is the best and by far - most used app - on my iPad.

I don't read many books but magazines I still prefer to read the paper version over the iPad version.

I'm a fan of reading on my Nook or iPad vs reading a real book. The Nook is slightly better than iPad for an ereader, sadly I'm with the group of people who can not read for long periods off of a computer/lcd screen. The e-ink definitely helps mitigate eye strain. Also the Nook fits conviently in my purse and is slightly easier to hold versus the Ipad.

One caveat though, I would still stick with real books for textbooks. A past professor published his text as an ebook and constantly trying to use the reference tables or flip back to look up an equation was very frustrating.

For fun reading (novels, etc), I definitely love reading iBooks, because I can set it down on a table/bed with my case, and I don't have to hold the book open the entire time. It is much easier to travel with an iPad than a thick book, especially on the plane. And I love being able to play a game or something when I want to take a short break from reading, and after the game, go right back into reading.

Again, it is so much easier for travel with and iPad and iBooks!

I'm currently reading 2 books and have each in hardcover and in iBooks...

Yet figure I'm not alone in this issue among the iPad owners and figured I'd ask.
:D

For normal reading, I prefer iBooks because it is simply very difficult to find the time to buy a hard copy of a book.

It's easy to keep your place for returning to an iBook, and it's very easy to take a few seconds to download a free classic or purchase something new.

I'll tell you what I have a hard time deciding: whether to read the iBook on the big screen of the iPad or the brilliant Retina Display of the iPhone!

:)
