A select few of my friends have high IQs but bad cases of ADHD which inhibits them from being as successful as they'd like to or are capable of being. They can still do decent in their studies / work and maintain a somewhat structured lifestyle but ultimately are under-achievers.

Hello. ;)

Only about 120, but that describes me to a tee.

This reminds me of me. I didn't get lower than a B with any of my school subjects GCSEs (UK), but I didn't try hard with any except 1 (with which I got an A*). I'm so lazy and I procrastinate with pretty much everything. I wanna kick this habit really bad.

So, do you procrastinate?

No. My motto is the only way to get things done is to start them. I'm chronically early to appointments, etc. I make lists when I have lots of things I need to get done. Then I strategize about how to tackle them, marking them off as they get finished.

My philosophy: I always know what my current task is. So, if something unexpected comes up, I do it right then so I won't forget. Then I get back to what I was doing. I've had days when I "put out fires" for most of the day, but nothing "fell through the cracks" and I finish the big tasks on deadline, always.

An example: Yesterday at noon I was asked to review a policy and procedures rough draft document (18 pages) and return comments. I did, before quitting time. Then I got back to what I was doing.

With school stuff, I do it as soon as I can. But I know people who will leave it to the last minute :D Personally, I think it's a dumb thing to do - what if you run into a problem?

I think it'd be interesting if got a "Do you think ADHD is real?" thread going in the social issues area. A lot of people stand firmly behind it while others claim it's a cop out for druggies.

I'm not sure what you mean by a "cop out for druggies", but I can assure you that ADHD exists. It is overly diagnosed which does lead some to question its validity, but nevertheless it's a real mental health disorder. It never ceases to amaze me how people will question organic mental health problems, but would never think to say cancer, diabetes, or the flu doesn't exist. The brain is just like every other part of the body in that it can exhibit or develop problems that affect people's functioning skills.

By the way, where's the thread you want to start? Are you procrastinating? ;)

Edit: sorry Mex I didn't answer the question. Yes, I do procrastinate. When I was in school I would seek out any distraction and use that as an excuse for not doing my work. This usually took on the form of cleaning. "Oh, I can't read that chapter until all the dishes are done... Look, those clothes need folding... I really should run the vacuum." Needless to say, I had a really clean and organized dorm room.

Then it wasn't meant to be :D.

What an optimistic way of looking at it! :D

Haha, Also whenever I need to do something, I always think 'I'll have time later'. Then I plan it out. I'll get up early, shower fast, do some homework in the car then finish it at school! Then when I get in the shower I take too long. And then just lose interest . Oh well! You only live once! And for what it's worth, I didn't finish my Chemistry project.

He's at it again in episode 2! Ion memorization
I have to memorize a bunch of bull that I don't really understand because I didn't do the the project! Ahh how I love school.
This is what I will always think of when I think about AP Chemistry

No I don't, procrastination assumes I am actually going to do something I might have put off to eventually complete the task--I don't function like that. if I don't want to do something I just don't do it at all, ever, I mean **** it. If I want to do something I do it, if I don't I wont.

I couldn't decide...so I did both...

I once turned in a paper late because I didn't start writing it until after it was due. Title: I am a Procrastinator. I got a B on it. Teacher said it was A quality, but she had to mark it down a grade because it was late. True story.

Oh, I know it exists. Read the other posts I made in this thread. But yeah I was just mentioning that many people believe it's made up. And yeah, the analogy of denying that your child has cancer and refusing to treat it is a good analogy.

Any self respecting procrastinator would have never replied to this thread. (((wasteland?) J/K) this thread is too good to go to the wasteland) It should have maybe 15 views and maybe one reply from the person in college that actually started a paper 2 weeks before it was due. I scald myself for replying within the first 2 days it was started. Stupid, stupid me!!
