I not sure where the Op get that most people think the iPad2 will be a big upgrade, most user here (macrumors) agree that it will be a minor update with more memory, Facetime Cameras and Maybe slimmer body. That's about it.

Apple is already selling just about every iPad they can make and it isn't even available everywhere yet so a minor upgrade makes the most sense. Apple engineers are probably already quite busy working on the next iPhone, iMacs, Macbooks, and MacBook Pros.

The usual.

Retina can be done cheaply with a TN panel like on the Touch. Would they go that route? I doubt it. They've already established that nice screen and how nice it looks even if you and a friend are looking at it together.

And remember Retina on a bigger screen would mean much higher pixel count than on iPhone or Touch. The same resolution as iPHone or Touch wouldn't be the same pixel density and so they might even call it Retina.

The same resolution as an iPhone or touch on the iPad would be a lower resolution than what the iPad has now.

To all the 1080P people: Can you really tell the difference between 1080 and 720 on a 9.7" screen ?

I'm a firm believer of the fact that we'll only see a minor upgrade. The gen.1 is yet to be released on all markets (northern europe), can't see a major upgrade as it would destroy the sales in those markets...

Movies on that size of screen with 'naturally' moving graphics on screen it would not be THAT much of a difference but of course nice to have if possible.

However for static displays, like text from a newspaper an eBook of others type of display use where you have small graphics to define.

50% more horizontal pixels would make things a lot smoother. Esp when combined with more horizontal also.
