I do.

I don't use the optical drive.. ever. I used to, but now I have very little use for it. But I'd probably buy the external drive just in case.

The weight, thinness and lack of glass on the Air is really appealing to me. I had a 13" Air for a while and loved it. A 15" MacBook Pro in the form of an Air would be great. No optical drive, so more space to put in a dedicated GPU while keeping heat control (2 fans).

If Apple learnt how to Apply Thermal Paste it wouldn't even be a n issue whatsoever ever. My I have never been able to get my MBP over 90C and I live in the tropics. All because I did my own thermal paste, also the idea that somehow compressing the case is going to increase the heat is obsurd do you even know where the air flows through a MBP? Even if this was an issue I m sure in a case redisgn fans would be moved anyway prabably lroviding better cooling.

Well my computer has NEVER had a problem with heat thanks, and Apple put the thermal paste on it, in fact I have no doubt that the issue only exists because people took the computer apart n the first place! The issue has been created where their is no issue.

Owners of the Air have also stated the fan is very loud when spinning at high RPM, which it will be as it's smaller, if the ODD was dropped then a lot of the internal space would be free for the movement of the fans, in fact they could place a blade SSD and normal 2.5" HDD space into it:

You could move the HDD into where the ODD is and put a blade SSD into the same space, that would allow the case to be thinned towards the front like the Air and allow a massive amount of room for a battery and you could most likely use the same power components as present.

I should also add though that then Apple would be marketing the ONLY 15" laptop on the market with no built in ODD. And that could be a problem on a 15" and 17" class computer. Unless they kept the ODD somehow on the 17" model?

I was stating in relation to a thinner MBP, if they make the current design smaller, a good thermal application would cure any problems. Now the fact of the matter is poor thermal paste applications is probably related to cost cutting by Apple so maybe a thinner design would be more expensive? Who knows?

Oh and relating to your comments that the issue was created. I completely aggree an issue was created, IN PEOPLE HEADS, I live in the tropics and felt that it would be a good learning experience as well as benefecial for my MacBook Pro. I dropped 10C off my normal temperature, joined can say that is a had thing.

I got you now mate. I think if they make a thinner computer, it won't be a 'lot' thinner anyway, just a bit. but yes better thermal paste application in the manufacturing line would help. The fans are pretty good though.
It's also always good to learn by doing it yourself ;), why pay someone to do it?

Still when you look at the picture I posted above, removing the optical drive would free up an awful lot of space!

Don't steal my line of thought! :p
