Yes, it's certainly plausible given what they did with the 3.

I don't agree. It happened once and for a very good reason. Apple doesn't have a history of spamming product releases like and Asus or Samsung or Nokia. Not buying an iPad because the "might" release another one a few months later basically means you'll never buy an iPad (as theoretically it's always a possibility that they'll release a new model a month later). There's nothing wrong with not wanting the new model, but don't be paralyzed by the fear of buyers remorse.

A lot of people seem to be worried that the air will be updated in just 6 months. I do not think that is the case. I think the 3 was only updated to the 4 to get all of Apple's products to be using the lightning cable. I think the next refresh will be a year from now.

I don't buy the theory with the lightning cable for iPad 4 anymore why it was a rush job. Since they are keeping iPad 2 along with iPhone 4S. The theory with lightning cable for iPad 4 falls flat.

iPad 4 was rushed to replaced iPad 3 cause A5X couldn't handle retina graphics games.

Riiiiight...and in six months they may refresh iPad Air and iPad Mini with TouchID once those parts are no longer in short supply (and sure, it will be because they are doing it to get all of Apple's products using TouchID as a standard security feature).

I don't think the Air will get updated in 6 months since Apple is clearly pushing all its IOS devices into the yearly fall cycle (and now so they can all use the same chips) right before Apple's biggest revenue stream i.e. the holiday sales.

It wouldn't make sense to release another Air in 6 months since they'd have to
a) develop a new chip quickly and it'll be only ran on the air (which makes no business sense now)
b) customers are confused as to which product to buy when it was released just a few months ago
c) no holiday sales
d) also it wouldn't be very different from the current air (like ipad 3 to 4) so there wouldn't be much point. and the 4 was just to sync up their ios releases and lightning adapter

If I had a family member to give my iPad 4 to I would go for the IPA. But, I don't and the 4 is plenty fast enough for me plus the screen is the same.

I do lust after the lighter, smaller format and the higher speed, but, not enough to make the leap.
