True, I thought I would experience less speeds vs the 16 I was using for a few months but its the same. At work my mini had trouble with signal strength (5th floor concrete building) but its not an issue with the air.

What apple is doing with the C1x modems is tremendous. I can't see where the compromise is for the modem.

Having come from a 15 Pro Max to a 17 Pro to an Air... the Air has crazy insane reception. In grocery stores where neither my 17 Pro or 15 Pro Max had reception, - the Air chugs away with 1 bar as if it is right next to a tower. The reception bars and wifi signal bars also seem far more responsive (update more frequently).

When I restored from iCloud backup, my Air did it in less than half the time it took my 17 Pro ... (I had weird wifi issues with my 17 Pro days later even). My 17 Air picks up wifi in parking lots that neither of my phones did... <shrug>.
That's the advantage of having a superior frame with far less encumbrances than the other models. The Air is THE superior iPhone - the rest is overhyped crap for those who think they need a "better" camera, stereo speakers that no one cares about in a tiny device, or a ficticious "better" battery life.

I've noticed the same versus the regular iPhone 17. In 1-bar areas where I could use the Air just fine, internet on the 17 is pretty much non-existent.

I'm considering going back to the Air and maybe just using a loop grip to help with one-hand use.

Haha - I'm glad people have a choice. I can live with 1 camera - my wife could not. :p

That's interesting.... so that means Apple's C1X modem that's in the iPhone Air, even though it doesn't have 5G mmWave, may be a bit stronger in low-signal areas than the Qualcomm modem in the rest of the iPhones? Very interesting anecdote.

I am definitely seeing this - repeatedly. (I had 2 weeks with the 17 Pro in the same areas). At first I thought it was just me, but it keeps happening. I am amazed that in areas for the last 2+ years where I couldn't ever get a text out, the Air acts like I'm sitting next to a tower (with my 15 Pro Max, and with my 17 Pro).

(Obviously I'm not doing side by side comparisons so I was a little hesitant to say something at first). lol

What was funny was, I remember turning off Wifi and seeing my iPhone Air show Verizon Wireless 5G U/W. I was like wait a minute, I thought it didn't have the mmWave antenna?! (My own misunderstanding).

Getting 575-625mbps down and 49.4mbps up with my Air. (I have max bar Verizon Wireless reception in my house). And this is sitting at my desk inside of my office. lol

My wife's 17 Pro gets about 100-150 mbps less than me from same position. <cough>. :p

You are going to offend all the "pro" photographers on this site as well as all the "extremely busy" people who need the so-called "all-day" battery because they have no access to a charger throughout the day, yet, they seem to be always be hanging around this site to comment on Air's inferior qualities.

7 weeks today and I'm still loving it as much if not more than day 1. I actually look forward to taking it off the MagSafe stand each morning. I haven't felt like this about an iPhone, or any device really, since the X. It is, based on what is currently available on the market, the very best option for ME.

I do want a thin case, maybe apple's case. Just for occasional use.
I use mine naked 98% of the time but throw on a Pitaka Ultra-Slim for runs/hikes/long walks with the dogs/etc. It adds very minimal weight/thickness but noticeable grip that is appreciated with wet and/or dirty hands.

I second the pitaka case. They’re very good.

Hold up… I think you’re onto something here! Because my Pro Max doesn’t get any usable signal at the movies, but my Air does.👀👀👀

(Disclaimer: I only use my phone, at minimal brightness, during trailers or to quickly peep a pee-time.)

I had the air for a week and enjoyed the experience. I decided to exchange it for the pro max because the speaker when on speakerphone calls (which I use a lot) buzzed at any volume above 1/2. (Speaker was fine playing music loudly.) Unexpectedly I also found the air harder to hold than the pro max. Yes, the lighter weight is wonderful, but I have bigger hands and the thin sides of the air were hard for me to grip well. Holding it for longer periods bothered my hand. I think a case would have helped…if I used cases.
Overall I’m really glad I tried it. It’s a great product…just not for me.
That’s a fair criticism. I noticed that too on voice calls but it’s not a deal breaker for me I need a phone and pocket factor and hand factor are worth the sacrifice.

Yes, I like the iPhone Air a lot.

Yesterday in a comment in another thread I wrote a long full spiel about my experience with the Air so far, and I've only had it for about a week, but TLDR:

Coming from a 16 Pro Max, I do miss the other camera lenses especially the telephoto, but the thinness and lightness of the Air "outweighs" that. It didn't make sense to me that I tortured myself 99% of the time with that ball and chain 16PM so that I could use its extra lenses for a few minutes per month (on average probably even less). The math didn't add up. So I gave up the two lenses, but now I actually like using my phone.

But everyone is different. Different tolerances, different needs/wants, different situations. But in general I'd say if you use the ultra wide and telephoto lenses a lot, the Air is probably not for you. If the other trade offs like battery life or mono speaker bother you, it's possible you can find workarounds for those, but probably not with the camera.

I am sure OP is not going to just base his purchase off of recommendations here. He/she is just looking for reassuring comments. I am sure they will definitely check it out in person. Do you not ask people for recommendations on restaurants? It's the same thing.
I'm not sure but I hope the OP is gathering information about the Air that applies to them specifically and not just going on the yays or nays of strangers who know nothing about the OP. I say not sure because some people in these forums seem to do exactly the latter, which perplexes me.

It is a little different than getting restaurant recommendations though. With a restaurant (or even a movie) which is just about enjoyment, I feel like there is no right answer, so it's understood that recs are subjective. But with a phone which is a lot about pragmatism, I feel like there is a right answer as far as a best fit. So subjective recs aren't useful. The only one who will know what fits the OP is the OP. It would be a bit like asking for career recs. It would be much better to gather specific information about specific careers, and then make up one's mind from that--which is hopefully what the OP is doing regarding the Air.

Then there's Apple's claim of all day battery life, I took that with a grain of salt, but even that's a stretch.
Does Apple claim that for their phones? If so, that seems like a useless claim because it can mean so many different things. Does that mean literally 24 hours? With what kind of usage?

Concurrently I also own a nearly identically sized Galaxy S25 Edge which has excellent sounding dual speakers, dual cameras and a larger battery. It's proof positive of what's possible from a design and engineering perspective.
I hear people say the Edge is better because the camera and speakers, but I wonder if they are just selectively highlighting certain aspects. Does it not have any trade offs compared to the Air? It's as good or better in every way? Are Samsung engineers just better?

I'm considering going back to the Air and maybe just using a loop grip to help with one-hand use.
I haven't been able to use an iPhone easily and securely without a grip since SE1. I even had to use one on my SE3.
I wish they weren't necessary, but as far as grips go, FWIW in my opinion the best one is Snap Grip. It's the thinnest I've seen, has pass through MagSafe, stand mode, and good design and construction. Kinda spendy though, so I only bought mine on sale. But I've been using them and only them for a long while.

This actually influenced my buying decision. I’ve been making a conscious decision to use my camera more often of late and the image quality, even on a 2-decade DSLR is still miles better than any phone. I conscientiously take my time with composition and conditions and find the images more enjoyable to look at. At the same time my iCloud library is stuffed with thousands of great iPhone-taken images I never give time of day. I bought the Air because if its lack of cameras.

Actually though it's not surprising really that Apples new C1X modem is going to function better with Apple new N1 cellular chip. This cohesion and integration allows Apple to control more parameters that better improve the efficiency of the signal. Qualcomm is of course a third party modem which cannot offer that type of cohesion and seamless integration that is found in the Air.

Also very few people can even take advantage of 5G mmWave so most of the advantages that would be offered with the Qualcomm modem in the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max end up being tossed to the side anyway.

As I have said if I was going to upgrade to a new iPhone right now, it would be the Air. It offers more of the future blueprint as to where Apple is headed with the iPhone line.
