Just went to store to play around.

Since will be selling 15 pro soon to welcome my new 12 mini, was eyeing some ipads: pro 11 or mini 7.

Objectively pro 11 is too big for my use cases, but it is still a good size to work with. Looked exactly as m4. That 120hz is great though.

Mini 7: for some reason was lagging bad under ios 26.1. In the past noticed any store model apple product lags versus retail version, so might need maybe to test drive it at home.

Then glanced over the iPhone Air. Immediately noted this as a no brainer when it comes to comfiness and overall feel.

Summary: went to store to test ipads but came impressed by an Iphone Air - probably the best device this year that apple offers.

Same. My Canon with the kit lens still runs circles around my 15 Pro.

Also, when taking closeups with my 15 Pro in the 1x, and macro activates, it just uses a scaled up 3MP image that is a cropped view of the 0.5x lens. This makes daylily photos taken 7-8" away from the phone look artificial and just poor quality compared to experience with previous iPhones that lack macro. So I'm glad the ultra wide is not present in this case.

Disagree.

iPhone Air is better than DSLR or even the new mirrorless in image quality. I'm seriously impressed with its image quality

The Air is a failure. Apple stores will tell you: It's not selling.

Nobody cares about its fraudulent "thinness." What they want is a smaller iPhone, not a "thinner" one (of course it's not thinner, because the camera module isn't).

The Air is just another symptom of rot in Apple at high levels. The Air dead-end, the "Liquid Glass" fiasco, declining software quality across the board... who will lead Apple out of this before decline really starts hurting the bottom line?

Ah, the dose of negativity. I knew it was coming 😁

I wouldn’t say “nobody cares”, this thread is proof that a great many users care deeply about the thinness of the phone. And it is a great phone that has sold millions of units. Just because it hasn’t sold what Apple considers great doesn’t mean other companies wouldn’t be thrilled with sales like that. It is all relative.
If they do make Air 2 then I’m not sure what I will do.. I hope they don’t, I like this phone a lot. Having two cameras would ruin the look and “stick it to the phone nerds “ attitude of this phone but I don’t want a old version if there is a new version.. I guess I would get a fold at that point but I really hope they don’t make another.. lol I know that is selfish.

I'm not saying Apple are beyond criticism but I have yet to see any concrete evidence its not selling. They cut manufacturing by 1m units? Thats just 0.4% of their annual device sales and not worth getting out of bed over. The Air is likely to evolve directly into the flip device and keep that branding. Apple are doing their usual mind games by getting people used to ideas before unleashing something 'big'.

I’m on the fence now. I loved it when I got it and I’ve no issues with battery life and love the industrial design, but the camera is really poor. I can’t understand why it’s so bad seeing as it’s pretty much the same as one of the pro cameras but I’ve not taken a good photo with it. I’ll go back to the pro in September and I won’t hand it down to the wife like I usually do, I’ll just give it back to Apple.

Yep, it's just a tiny adjustment like they do every year.

I personally love my Air, don't miss the 16PM one bit!

I was at an Apple Store last night and I saw people changing their minds from the pro to the air plus 90% of the employees have the air and the guy that was helping me was like I only got the pro because Verizon was giving it away if I upgrade but I want the air. “Failure” is a relative term

Its definitely my favorite Iphone I have ever owned (I have liked several Android phones more but the Air is my favorite for Iphones). I get reminded how great the Air is every time I hold/use my wife's 17 Pro Max.

For me, the lack of zoom lens and the poor focus due to lack of lidar is what makes the camera experience very mediocre.

A comment I saw on Reddit the other day made me chuckle when it compared the Pro Max to having a 'can of soup in your pocket' 😅

While I'm glad I bought an iPhone Air for the experience, I find several areas of its performance mediocre.

The camera is most certainly not up to Apple standards. I'm not even comparing it to the exemplary performance of the camera array of my iPhone 16 Pro Max, but just considering its performance as a standalone single camera.

Then there's the woefully poor sounding audio from what must be the cheapest single speaker Apple could find. Surely the corporate bean counters had a hand in this decision.

Last is the mediocre battery. Apple had a golden opportunity to use the latest battery technology like several Android phones employ, yet best guess is Apple didn't want to use a cutting edge battery.

That said I remain satisfied with the decision to try this Air, and look forward to what might be a greatly improved iPhone Air 2 or whatever they may call the future version.

It is surely gimped but in a obvious way so people buying and enjoying it should know on the shore before sailing:

1) speaker is vibration type new slim one to fit into the thin body. Engineering feat, for people who listen to speakers occasionally to hear the voicemail message once in a blue moon.

2) camera is adequate as main lense on regular 17. Since sensor is bigger than previous models, optical physics come into play with bad macro mode. It is for people who just need a camera to snap documents, scan groceries for quick checkout (hello sams club), take quick snaps of kids/cats/dogs.

3) Battery is better than 15 pro. It is adequate to finish the day with 10-20%. Nighttime late walks with a powerbank or car charger is a given compromise because the owner in a perfect world should have been sleeping after socializing with family. So goes on charger overnight at 20%.

I'm an iPhone mini and SE owner but I admit that there isn't a big market for smaller phones. The market prefers larger phones with lotsa battery life.

Still extremely happy with mine! Battery life is great, the single camera is great (at least as good as the one on my 16 Pro), I don't care about the one speaker. Overall the design/thinness/lightness, it's a pleasure to hold every time I pick it up and still in love after nearly 2 months.

One very positive aspect of iPhone Air is the controversy and attention it has drawn to Apple.

If not for its shortcomings and the way those have been highlighted by Samsungs direct competitor in the well equipped S25 Edge, the Air might have gotten far less attention.

YouTube creators looking to curry favor with Apple have certainly benefited from fawning over this phone.

Love my iPhone Air! Never going back to an unwieldy brick again. Don’t miss my Pro Max one bit. Camera is excellent, not even an issue and battery life is fine for me.
