Here's the pictures on my new iBook.

I have one of these units as well, as well as an older 300MHz one. I use them when I'm traveling or when the power is off to play SNES games. I have a third unit but I need a hard disk and ribbon cable to rebuild it. I got these for like $15 a piece at the Dayton hamvention so no surprise that 2 of the 3 were missing their drives and cables..

I agree, only install tiger if you max out the RAM, Panther runs great on older machines with less RAM.

Hi. I love the clamshell. I have a 2001 M6411 (thats what it says on the bottom of the case) clamshell iBook SE with 320 mb ram and a 466 Mhz cpu. usb 1.1, firewire (praise be), airport and a DVD read writer. Its been my daily driver for a long time. I bought from a lady for about 200 bucks. She'd really cared for it. It was like new to look at. I run 10.4.11, MS Office, Virtual PC mit Windows 2000 (for running speaker box design programs), Abode Acrobat Writer 7, Creative Suite, etc.

I guess Ive written about 5,000 pages most with graphics on the page over the period. Never had a crash, a failure, or a problem. Its slow yea, compared to a modern machine, but the keyboard is great, its cheap, and for video stuff I use a G4 Mac Mini anyhow. And with Target disc mode its a snap to get stuff from one to the other. Could use ethernet or airport too. Bluetooth via dongle.

I love the thing. I reckon the thing to finally die will be the power supply. Hasnt happened yet. Can you still get them?

Yep the clamshell of any config was a stunning piece of work in its day and mine still impresses me and some of my friends. Video resolution - yea, it could be a problem, but I dont have that as an issue personally. Cant run iMovie being the only hang up for me, but it would be a bit slow.

At least mine laptop has Firewire. The current Macbook hasnt. There's a thread or two here about that. Maybe time for a MacBook SE?

If you have a dead clamshell, consider making your lady (or yourself if your a lady) (or want one anyway) a make up case with it. Lit mirror in place of screen, compartmentise the hollow space left by the removed keyboard. Put a normal AA battery holder in the battery space to power the mirror leds, and you might get "positive feedback" to whoever you give it to.

See its the only laptop in the world with a a a handle. Tech breakthrough that.

The 366mhz i got have an 80Gig HD inside and also, an dvd-+rw drive modded inside. The drive bay plate is glued in and almost can't see any difference outside, the bay just isn't perfect fit, need to have a bit force to close it. Works perfectly however.

Too bad pc66/100/133 512mb so-dimm's are quite expensive & hard to find. I guess they need to be low-density as well?

I finally got a clamshell again on Monday! I visited a local thrift store, and saw it upside-down in a box. I then rushed to check it out. It had the original CD's and booklets + adapter. It is a Key Lime 366MHz model, and had OS 9 on it. I took it home, and installed Panther, put an AirPort Card in it, and maxed the RAM out, and it's so fast! This is now my fifth one. I'll try posting pics later.

I love my 466 Lime, take it out periodically and play with it. The kids love it!

Unfortunately it's just too limited to do much serious work with it.

I only have my 466Mhz Graphite now,It's still maxed out on ram and now has a 80GB 5400rpm drive, the other one was dying and I found out it was a 4200rpm.I didn't like my ibook taking 5 minutes to boot.

Barely, to tell the truth. With age, It's obviously degraded, a little bit further than I'd hoped. The problem with it is the Hard Drive pins inside aren't connecting with the HDD, but the plus about it is that I have an 8GB Flash Drive, So I can still run 10.0 Fairly quickly on it.

I have an iBook Clamshell SE Graphite with 256GB RAM, 466MHz Processor, and I sent it into a shop to get a DVD (the guy I got the Clamshell from gave it with only a CD for some reason )

The battery is in and is working. Gets about 4 and a half hours text editing and non flash web browsing. All it needs now is 512MB of memory, a new faster hard drive.

Not meaning to bump but when it's around 93% charged the socket makes a buzzing noise. Is this bad? Help!

Hi all. I have a question?

Hi, im new here.. im Jeanette. Im looking for a new computer and a apple ibook clamshell is what ive been looking at for awhile. But im confused on the internet part. If its not wified. Can i buy a USB wireless adapter from walmart and just use it that way?

Im sorry if i confused you but no one i know has had an apple ibook yet and no one knows my answer. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can.

Hello, Welcome to MacRumors Forums!

to answer your question, all iBook clamshells are airport ready, meaning that it has the antennas built in, but you need an Original Airport card in order to use it, your iBook may already have one installed, in that case you are all ready to go.

If you don't have an Airport Card, you can find them cheap for around the $40 range just make sure that you get the Original Airport card and not an Airport Extreme Card.

I gave the guy all my stuff minus my PM G4 for the Macbook.Sadly,I now regret it as the Macbook just died.
Wow, that really sucks. Did anything happen to it that would void the warranty? If its the unibody in your sig, that thing should still be under the 1 year.
