I typically watch the local news if nothing else is on. The thing I dislike the most about the news is the "consumer watch" section where the "tech savvy" news reporter tells people something that everyone should know.

The news is depressing to listen about people getting arrested, shot, stabbed or in wrecks.

I watch local news when I'm at my parents house (as I really like the production and they aren't all brain dead), KOMO and KCPQ. When I'm at school in Flint, MI, the news is too depressing in the 3rd worst city to live in the US. When I'm home, I get the news out of Portland, but it is mostly pointless. I get most of my news from a local radio station and TotalFark.

I haven't watched local news in nearly a decade.
In fact, the only television I watch at all is the stuff that's on the muted TV at the pub.
On the upside, I'm very productive.
On the downside, if there's ever a zombie uprising I'll be taken completely by surprise.

Local news? sometimes. At the very least, for the weather.

As far as Continuous Negative News goes, Turner lost my total respect when they started to colourize classic B&W movies, and make old Looney Tunes cartoons politically correct.

But for the most, I get my news from NPR.

BL.

I watch local news all the time as a kicker to select national news. Out of six local channels there are two that are usually on top of everything and have a good mix of current events, state and national.

Their coverage, especially the national coverage, is to me as a breath of fresh air because it is reported and not editorialized (spun) as the typical network or public tv/radio sources are.

I never watch it when I'm home in Wisconsin. In Chicago, I TiVo the ABC7 10:00 news and either watch it with a slight buffer or the following morning.

I can't watch CNN at all. It's one of the only English speaking channels I get at our places abroad. But it's just so overly dramatic and explosive. The kind of news channel Brasseye fed off in the 90's.

But then again BBC Worldwide (which we also get) is terrible compared to the proper BBC News 24 in the UK.

ITV news isn't bad either, Tony Wilson made it great.

Do you get CNN US or CNN International? The US channel is junk, but the International version is actually pretty good.
