In my opinion 3.5" is to small. That is the reason I have never bought an iPhone. Even my last phone with a 3.7" screen seemed a little small. Now I have a Droiad Razr Maxx with a 4.3" screen and love it. I would not want a phone with anything bigger then a 4.3" screen. I do think Apple will go with a 4"or 4.3" screen. I think that will be the perfect size for the next iPhone.

I saw a co-worker with a Droid Razr Maxx today, and he was holding it in one hand, while using his index finger in the other to interact with the screen. It reminded me of how I use my iPad when I'm not at my desk.

When you naturally pick up your Droid Razr Maxx, how do you hold it?

I want a larger screen AND a bigger phone. I don't want them to just make the screen bigger, but the phone needs to be bigger as well. Hopefully that's what happens this year. I don't wanna leave the iPhone, but unless they come out with a phone with a bigger screen, the new iPhone will have to have some pretty amazing features to keep me. I like iOS and don't wanna switch, but I do to much w my phone to stay with a 3.5 inch screen, especially when the new round of premium androids are gonna be very, very good.

I think Apple is SMART enough to launch a 3.5" iPhone 5 this year because millions and millions and millions of people want that size or don't care. Far far more then a few people on an internet forum who will proclaim to know better then Apple and its marketing and sales team and analysts who frankly will always know FAR more then ANYONE on here, or the fact the 4S has sold a massive number of units despite the bigger screened competition.
Apple are only going to launch a bigger phone if they can sell it and if they want to do it.

I know Apple doesn't believe in market research or what people on general think what their products need to be like. But I think the overwhelming majority of iPhone users want a bigger screen for the next iPhone.

This statement alone just shows YOU to be very arrogant yourself, and that you are totally ignoring the sales facts, and, as I said you are proclaiming to know better then a company worth 600 billion dollars with thousands of employee's that are most likely the very best in their fields, being paid thousands if not millions for their work and advice.

You may as well state Johnny Ive and his team has no clue how to design a product and you yourself know far more about what people and Apple want in it's products designs and what can be done with a products design.....

I know Apple is smart enough to increase the screen a bit with iPhone 5 to prove millions and millions and millions of people are not smart enough :p

Droids are typically huge honkin' phones. Give Apple some credit for designing a 4" phone that's easy to use with one hand.

I think apple is arrogant enough and there are plenty of users who will not wait again and still plenty more users who see everything apple does as perfect. Neither is right or wrong its just their point of view.

Mine votes with my wallet and honestly the biggest issue I have with Android is the OS updates being carrier and mfg controlled. Google needs to fix this (they won't) but I won't keep buying a 3.5" phone either.

Depends on what I am doing. I have no problem using my left fingers as a cradle and then interacting with my thumb. I'm a guy and have decent sized fingers, but they are far from large. I also hold it with my left hand at times and use my right index finger to interact with it. I hold it differently if I am texting or typing very much. I guess it just depends on what I do with it, but it's not hard to use at all.

I've came to the conclusion that the iPhone could look the same for the next 5 years and only have minor changes inside and it would still sell by the millions because it is an iPhone. Apple knows this so they might as well milk the current design for all it's worth and keep making mega bucks.

i genuinely dont think people buy iPhones because they think they are the best

There is definitely a massive lack of information out there for the average consumer.

There are some that do because it is the right phone for them, but I also know several that just want one because it is an iPhone and they want to fit in with everyone else. If you are on Verizon and live in a 4G LTE area it is getting pretty hard to recommend the old fashioned CDMA only iPhone at this point. Especially if you only update every couple of years and have to be stuck on old 3G CDMA for your entire contract.

Apple are arrogant enough to:

- Not adopt USB 3
- Not allow file transfer on the iPhone
- Not update iWork for three years
- Not update the Mac Pro for 2 years
- Not allow Flash on their mobile devices
- Not adopt the universal USB charger
- Not allow the first iPhone to use standard headphones etc etc.

So yes, they certainly are arrogant enough to churn-out the same hardware yet again.

Oh I am pretty certain even if the next iPhone looks the same and only adds a slightly better processor and 4G LTE support people will still be tripping over themselves to get one. Why waste money on a new case or screen design when people will buy no matter what?

EXACTLY!!

This has always been my argument against Apple. It doesn't seem to matter what they chuck out, people queue around the block waving their Visa cards. This isn't good for Apple. I believe this is causing Apple to stay still (why change it if they can't sell enough) whilst other platforms and manufacturers are pressing ever onward.

I've jumped to Android after five years of blindly buying iPhones and love it. Apple will now need to 'win' me back. All it takes is a few more million people to do this and the rot will set in.

Sony used to be at the top and today announced 10,000 job cuts. Apple's position won't last forever - especially if they keep treating their loyal customers like this.

Yeah. The brainwashing argument is classic. It makes so much more sense than the simple theory that people like Apple products.

"Stay still" = "Change everything but the screen"
"Pressing ever onward" = "Bigger screens"

This is also what I hate about Google. Millions of people buy Android devices despite all their flaws. There's no incentive for Google to improve things with so many people giving them the green light with the way things are right now.

I wouldn't mind the screen being a bit bigger - 4" maybe. I'm in my 40s, so a slightly bigger screen would be easier on the eyes. However, I do want the iPhone to continue to be "phone size". I've stopped at the cell phone kiosk at the mall out of curiosity, and some of those phones look way too big to slip into my pocket. I realize a lot of people want to be able to do everything on one device, but I think the iPhone should stay pocketable and slim. For big-screen applications, use an iPad. (Or, as I want to do, a Kindle Fire.)

Just my thought...

This time, apple will change the screen because:

1. 4g demands for bigger battery - thus bigger (fatter) phone. If they decide to keep or reduce the depth, they have to increase the screen otherwise it will look like too much bezel.

2. These days 3.5" incher is kind of cheap phone. Almost all, premium phones have larger screen.

3. The USP for 4 was retina, 4S was Siri and 5 will be all new model with bigger screen with higher resolution. Making higher resolution in 3.5" is impractical.

4. Honestly, some user experiences (web surfing, some games, twitter) can get advantage from larger screen.

5. I hope apple guess slight increase in screen size (and phone size) will not bother that much who think 3.5" is perfect but can tap the iPhone lovers who run away just because of small screen ( I dont want to go inside the debate how large or small is this group but I personally belong to) or new customers who prefer larger phones ( this community is not that small- Galaxy note sold 5 millions in 3 months worldwide)

I really don't understand where this argument comes from. Screen size is subjective, some prefer bigger and some prefer smaller, so let's look at just the facts.

In terms of hardware, the iPhone 4S beats all Android phones in all CPU/GPU based benchmarks, making it the fastest phone with the best graphics on the market. The screen pixels are smaller than the eye can see, a feat ony a few recent Android phones can claim, and the camera has hardware video stabilization, something (from what I've seen) no Android phone has.

If you ask me, the biggest thing that sets the iPhone apart is the software and ecosystem, that's the real killer feature, but in terms of hardware, how can anyone argue that it's not on top?

I have a mac, 2 ipads, and an iphone. My phone is about to die form all the abuse over the years and i have to say it has held up pretty well. As the iphone 5 comes out i hope it to be june. I and everyone i know that has an iphone want a bigger screen. Apple has to increase the screen size or have a major update. The screen size is at the top of my list. If that doesn't happen im probably off to a droid. I would rather have a larger screen and have to restart the phone everyday than have a small screen. Apple needs to do something with their phone. A few ppl i know have switched to a droid for the bigger screen and i may join them.

Apple may be on top right now but they can fall fast. Look at all the companies that were big 10years ago that are almost out of business now.

Apple is an arrogant company no matter what. The age of the 3.5 inch display is over, I'm sure Apple knows this. I passed on the 4S because it brought nothing to the table display wise. IMO a 4 inch dispaly would be perfect and would appease those who want a larger display.

Can't see why they can't offer choices like they do with 11"/13" Airs, or 13/15/17" Macbook Pros.

Then everybody wins?

The upcoming iPhone is the last one that Steve Jobs had a big part in. We all know he was very much in favor of the 3.5 inch screen. I would assume the next one will keep the same sized screen then. I would prefer something a bit larger but we will see.

The 3.5 inch display should have died with SJ. Let's hope this isn't the case and Apple goes with a larger display.

Numerous customer satisfaction surveys show that Apple is doing a respectable job in satisfying their customers. Apple doesn't have to be perfect, they just need to do better than their competition... and they are.

You are admitting now, that you have been blindly buying iPhones for 5 years. But I highly doubt that you would've admitted that while you were buying iPhones.

But now "you've seen the light" and are buying Android. Hopefully for you, you made an informed decision this time and not blindly buying an Android device.

Apple "winning" you back is only one potential action. The other is that Android can "lose" you. It is possible that Apple can simply plod along and Google stumbles with Android causing you to become disenchanted with Android and go back to Apple.
