No, Apple doesn't owe you anything. The iPad 3 still works just as well as it did on the day it came out, at least mine does. In fact my first generation works just as well as it did on the day it was released.

So you don't have the latest and greatest anymore, the fact of the matter is that you still have a functioning device. A device that still works leaps and bounds better than the iPad 2, which by the way they are STILL selling. Now if they released a new iPad and and the iPad 3 I just got a few months ago all of a sudden ceased to operate at all as a result of the new 4th generation iPad, then I might say Apple owes me something.

If having the faster processor, although I can't imagine how much more noticeable it will be since my 3rd Gen iPad is super fast, and having the lightening connector are super important to you then get it. Other than that I don't see a big reason to run out and get the new one. I will wait until at least the 5th generation one. Unless of course I decide 16GB just doesn't cut it anymore and I need to go to 32GB or 64GB.

Do think they might have pushed out the iPad 4th gen, since the messed up the new iPad, not being compatible with LTE world wide. And if they just released the new iPad with the new LTE chip and announced the 4th gen in march, then ppl would be more pissed

When you buy a premium Apple product you dont expect them to discontinue it and sell them $140 cheaper as refurbs in 6 months.

Many people with iPad 3's will be annoyed , its understandable.

To all the complainers: are you going to ask for a rebate the next time you buy a vehicle/appliance/t.v./boat/etc. and a new model is introduced soon thereafter?

You purchased a product and received value for your purchase.
You're owed nothing.
Welcome to the real world.

Wow! Don't go here if you just bought a 3rd gen and can't return it. You may get more depressed....

My iPad 3 has a tiny scratch on the back so I opted 'Yes' for cosmetic damage... According to them it is worth £36.75 (64GB WiFi)!

Thats only 6.5% of what I paid for it!

To the OP: Are you KIDDING me?

Calm down. I'm not implying Apple owes me anything, and I don't for a second believe that they actually care about their customers. iPad 1, 2 and 3 still have the better resale values compared to other tablets.

However, it's still interesting to see what others think in a poll. I should have included the options to indicate whether you are actually an iPad 3 owner or not. (Mod, any chance to update the poll? ... probably not)

i have an ipad third gen...had a 1st gen before and It still feels like the latest.

Physically it looks the same...there is nothing "extra" you can do with it (like Siri on 4S versus 4)...you will still get all the latest software updates (not like android stuff where you don't know if yours will be counted on the next android release...its still really fast!! (sure the new one is faster but this one is really fast)...even has the same screen.

This change was only done to get their new lightning connector and they threw in a processor bump just to keep it fresh.

no they shouldn't, but it doesn't take away the right of anyone to vent their frustration. i am one of those people.

i bought an iPad 3, 32GB, LTE-Verizon on October 2. i am obviously outside of my return period now. i was under the impression that all they were going to announce was an iPad Mini, not a revised iPad 3. if i had known, of course i would have waited. the fact that i did not wait is not Apple's fault, it's simply my own. i won't ask for a rebate, i won't ask to return it, i'll keep it for now until i can test drive an iPad with the A6X.

my iPad 3 with A5X can barely keep up, it's constantly hiccuping during Metal Storm, graphics intensive websites, you name it. this is the 3rd iPad to do this too (took 2 exchanges to get one without black light bleed and pink screens). my iPad was perfectly fluid during all tasks and was overall a zippier product. the A6X will be a godsend for the iPad 3 and that upgrade alone is worth the upgrade. Facetime HD camera is a nice bell (or whistle) but personally i've never had an issue with the front facing camera.

The iPad 3 officially had the shorten life cycle EVER of any Apple products.

It's not that the iPad 3 became any slower than it was 6 months ago. But if you were one of those that just bought an iPad 3 recently, you must be to some extent disappointed to find that there is now a faster newer model for the same price (or even $20 cheaper if you are in Canada).

Do you think Apple should do something to make these people a little less upset, a small token of appreciation like some iTunes credit, or a cash rebate?

Why on earth should they do that??
I can't understand this..
Why should a company rebate some cash to the consumers, who have an older product, just because a new one comes out? It doesn't make any sense.

I'm not backing the OP; however, Apple did a similar credit to early adopters of the original iPhone when they dropped the price shortly after its release.

Not saying that the iPad3 situation is similar at all... just saying that the act of Apple giving rebates is certainly not unheard of.
