Android updates go to the carriers first then the carriers test and approve for release on their network

So do Apple's iOS updates. Carrier testing happens for every iOS release. It is just Apple has a much faster process for the updates.

Now you know why Google does rolling updates. They can limit the damage done by an errant release.
Yeah, releasing this in the middle of the night local time would have limited the damage a lot, should be standard procedure. Not only does staggering the release limit potential damage, it balances out bandwidth, there have been some updates where Apple's servers all get slammed at once and downloading is slow (not sure about this once since I didn't download it).

Then how could such a gigantic flaw happen on their new flagship phone 6 days after release?

Everyone is always looking for handouts and people wonder why this country is in the toilet

I expect something because it has not been fixed as of yet. I have no cell phone service, I can't even dial 911 for god sakes. When I leave I will not have WIFI therefore my phone becomes useless.

If rollbacks were permitted this whole issue would have been resolved already. :(

I agree with this. It's a huge mistake of Apple.

What happened to Apple making quality products? This is really hammering on credibility. Come on Apple!

Just curious. You don't have any iPhone but use an android phone, right?

All you had to do was go to Settings-General-Usage-and DELETE the update.

As others have said, if having a functioning phone was that important to you , you should have waited to see how it worked for others, or at least till you got home

Thank goodness It prevented me from updating to it. Glad Apple at least stopped the rollout of the update .

Tell this to my parents and other non techie users (ie a majority of Apple's customers).

They see an option to update, they click on it ... fair enough I think. And now they are asked to either wait with a non functional phone or restore through iTunes which is something they are not comfortable with.

It doesn't make Apple look good to them ... I know from experience as my father just had his Apple TV bricked due to a failed update and was not very happy as the restore through iTunes doesn't seem to work and there is no Apple store around where they live to help him (not sure whether it is him doing the restore wrong, but the thing bricked itself to to poor design - probably a short power cut during the auto-update - and now he can't fix it). His opinion of Apple as a brand took a big hit.

Right now, some of you are walking around with a unusable giant bent phone that cost you over a grand. Lol what a joke. Hope they make it right.

You do realize that people existed just fine, driving to and from work, living life etc., before there were cell phones. I'm sure you'll be fine driving home. Just sack up, you'll get through it!

I disagree. Some people use it for business or have on-call duty. It becomes even more important if there is an emergency. Besides, mobile phones have become a very important part of our lives. People existed just fine before electricity entered our lives. I'm not sure if anyone here is willing to live without electricity for even one hour.

Oh ok. I thought they got pushed straight to the phones and that was why apple got their updates out faster. Thank you

People got home alright after work for the past 200,000 years or so, without cellular service. I am sure you will do alright for an hour.

The antenna was a hardware issue. This is a software bug that can be fixed easily enough.

What compensation do you expect from Apple for this?

An hour without cellphone service. Anybody who grew up in the 1980s or before be like, "so?" AT&T screwed up my order so I got it five days later. But I don't expect compensation. Geez, the people our bills would have to pay for if these companies had to give out a buck every time something went wrong.

They gave us a free U2 Album, what else do you want? Now how do I get this stupid U2 Album off of my device?

If less than 0.1% of users are having their phones bent then expect nothing. The antenna issue of the 4 would affect 100% of users who covered that part of the phone with their hand.

and life goes on!

I really don't know why it's such a big deal though. It's just a temporary issue, it will be fixed soon with an update. They won't compansate whatsoever
