Clearly what we need is a setting that makes your phone meow every time you type a letter, but with a bunch of different meows recorded in for that because it'd be a terrible idea to just use one.

I mean, think about it. It's the only real option.

Actually, that is a great idea (minus the meows). Windows Phone does this and it makes typing a lot less annoying. In iOS, everytime you type, you get the same exact typewriter sound after each key (very annoying); in Windows Phone, you get this one sound, but it changes slightly after each key press (it doesn't sound as repetitive).

I found this video that demonstrates this - sound quality in the video sucks but the pitch of the sound changes is noticeable at the end.

They really need to change the sounds - the unlock sound is dated - and they could use a few more professional sounding ringers and text message alerts.

While perhaps relatively better in some minor way, typing sounds in general seem to be annoying at best for the majority.

Wow people are talking about sounds... How about something more useful: like a filesystem.
To each his/her own. Plus, while something like a filesystem might be more useful (to some), it's not as much of a realistic thing for Apple to provide as simply updating sounds. Seems like for some discussing something more realistic that they are interested in might be somewhat more worthwhile.

Seriously, you don't want access to the iOS file system. For one, it's case-sensitive by default.

Really all I want is a basic file manager. A Place where all my docs and pdfs are stored. For instance if I open a pdf page in safari on an iPad, I want the ability to save it but obv we can't do that because where would it go? You can still keep the sandbox style of ios with this, just give a limited folder where you can store basically anything and the only way an app would have access to it is if you gave it permission etc. Dropbox is an ok alternative, but its usefulness is highly app-centric.

Considering the flat design of iOS 7, wouldn't you want apple to take out some of the old ringtones that perhaps matches the older skeuomorphic design and replace them with new ringtones that match the flat design.

Kind of.

I think that Apple needs to move a lot of stuff to DLC and sounds could be one of them.

If they moved to more of a plug in system they could easily open up for folks to create sound packs, font packs, iMovie themes etc. we could pick and choose what we want, they could add new languages etc without having to do a whole iOS update. They could even be made by third parties and still vetted via the App Store.

----------

the current sounds are skeumorphic sounds. the old phone ringtone sound is a clear example of this.

They can't get rid of that one. I've trained myself to know that that's my mother and not to pick up if I'm 'occupied' (and yes I mean in a Barry White kind of way).

iOS devices are not computers. Pretty clear this is Apple's view so a file system is unlikely to happen any time soon if ever. Folks around here have come to realize this and most have gotten over it.

And really is a file system that needed. At least a user accessible one. Sure a common bucket to avoid dupes of common files like PDFs. A better way to deal with file sharing definitely. But do we really need to see the files and folders directly.

Yup we should definitely get rid if the one specific sound that has been associated with a phone call coming in since pretty much the invention of the telephone. That'll show 'em!

Well just think of Skype's new default ringtone :p, it's nowhere near an actual phone ring, but it's unique and I think people recognize it and associate it with Skype. And that's a good thing.

Of course the same could be said with marimba on the iphone, if you hear that in public, you pretty much know that it's ah iphone. So I don't think moving away from the skeumorphic ringtones is a bad idea, as long as it's replaced by something unique and identifying. But if Apple decides to do this, why wouldn't they be?

sure let's keep using an skeumorphic sound from an early 50's telephone and a telegraph sound from the 1837! let's get android apple we've got this!

I'm sure more young people are going to go fuc<nig gaga after they keep using this sounds with a new born iOS 7 revamp.

And the downside of keeping that tone in addition to tons of others that can be there in addition as well is what exactly?

That's fine, sure. But no real downside of keeping that particular tone as well (as an option, just like any other tone) given its history, nature, and even the mere fact that its already there.

Oh my God, you're absolutely right! I've been thinking about it for a while, and this is the only viable improvement. I made a demo video to illustrate exactly what you're talking about:

I think they'll make the sounds lighter (if that makes sense :D) and less focused on what action they accommodate. I wanna say more futuristic ???

????????????????????????????????

What was your improvement? Looked the same to me.

Meh, too much work, forget about it then, probably just a failed attempt at humor anyway.;)

There's nothing humorous about hearing meows for keyboard clicks. It's just the kind of professionalism and sleekness that iOS 7 needs.

huh? when did I stated such tone to be axed? I never said apple should just delete them for good, they can stay there for people used to them, they just need a new set of tones that match the look and feel of iOS 7.

New tones (in addition to existing ones) would certainly be good.

com·put·er - noun
1. Also called processor. an electronic device designed to accept data, perform prescribed mathematical and logical operations at high speed, and display the results of these operations.

iDevices are most definitely computers.. accessible file system ≠ computer

Yes, absolutely. I really dislike the old ringtones, they feel very dated. I think they can create new sounds which reflect the new lighter design style.
