If it has the rumored $100 price hike, definitely.

But 16GB still plenty for majority of iPhone users.

Do you think iPhone 6 will start at 32GB?
I think the days of 16GB are gone and I'll be very disappointed if Apple doesn't start at 32GB.

With 4G, cloud computing etc, is there not an argument for needing less internal memory anyway?

4K HD video disagrees with your argument. And besides some people want to carry all their stuff with them, offline. Also, there are people who just want lots of storage, might come in handy, you never know.

Someone posted last year about the 5 should have 32 GB entry level, and the year before for the 4S, than a year earlier than that for the 4. Here we go again with someone saying the 16GB models are gone. It will never end.

I agree, and I'm with you - I prefer to have more on-board storage for the (many) times I don't have good signal.

4K video on an iPhone? Anyone who falls for that is a mug.

In fact, anyone who falls for 4K video on anything less that a 60" screen is a mug.

Which is sad, because on other platforms you can buy a 3rd party SD card and add the storage you want, even if the phone has 8GB. Not on the iPhone. As an iPhone user, I wish Apple would get on with the program and start at 32GB (or at least make the price jumps between the capacities smaller).

That's not an issue as there are options. 32GB and 64GB are currently available.

So pretty much you are asking for a price drop?

No, iCloud is heavily reliant on physical storage. *Everything* is stored on your phone, except for iTunes Match songs. Have you ever owned an iOS device before? If you have, you should know this.

How funny. I had the iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS as well as the 1st gen iPad.

4 iOS devices and I never knew this. I thought iCloud worked like Dropbox/Google Drive etc.

Nope. iCloud is a sync tool. Snap a photo with your iPhone, it will automatically download to your iPad. But the photo will be stored on both your iPad and iPhone. That's ok: it means you never have to worry about having a proper connection, everything is perfectly in sync. But it's not stored in the cloud indefinetely.

I think they will still have 16GB, you have to remember that not everybody will buy things based on the best $/functionality. But frankly, after staying with 16GB for many years, I think I'm simply going to go with either the 64GB or larger for the next phone.

I doubt it. 8gb is still going into the 4S model currently sold which wasn't even available until the 5S release. So Apple went out of their way to revise the 4S for less storage.

I would like it to be 32gb but I find it unlikely it will. Only thing that makes me think there is the slightest bit of hope is some of the competitors minimum storage is currently 32gb. So maybe in an attempt to stay competitive. Since a lot of people will compare a 32 gb HTC phone to a 32 gb iPhone. The iPhone will be 100 dollars more for that reason alone plus you can typically find competitor phones a bit cheaper then the iPhone to begin with. Be tough to stay competitive with the iPhone 100-200 dollars more IMO.

Still find it unlikely however

I've never really used or paid attention to iCloud....I use Dropbox and always thought iCloud was similar....guess you learn something new everyday! Honestly the whole cloud computing thing is pretty overrated...I've been using dropbox for a long time (if anyone needs referals I could use the space bump :D) and its not like its magic or something.

No there is no way apple is going to start it at 32 gigs. Because why it benefits you and me not apple. And people do buy the 32 gig

i think it will still start at 16 but they may add 128 option.

Yeah I think there is a 50% chance apple will add 128 GB this year

They should, 16 GB is a joke today. Earlier when flash storage was expensive at 32 GB and even 64 GB, it made sense but not now. 32 GB should be standard with 64 and 128 carrying on the succession of storage options.

Answer to OP: Not for one second, no. Apple rely on releasing such a pitiful base spec that most people are forced to buy an enhanced version for an outrageous price hike. Sure I like their stuff, or I wouldn't be on here. But that is their model.

Unfortunately I agree.

Some manufacturers already start at 32 gb, and most other manufacturers now charge 50 for each storage bump.

Taking those things into account makes you realize that Apple just wants more money. It is a business so.

I still know quite a few people for whom 16 GB is more than enough.

If they start at 32 GB those people will resent being "forced" to buy more than they need.

So although it will make you guys happier I think it will make a lot more customers upset. That makes it a bad business move to kill off a 16 GB phone.

Now, do I wish they'd do 32 GB for $199 and 16GB for $99 for the new phone? Heck yeah. Then everyone wins! Except for Apple's margins, so that's not happening. Oh well.

So do I wish the phone was cheaper? Yeah. Do I wish 16 GB would vanish? No. Those are two separate things and when you get down to the heart of it this entire thread is essentially complaining about the first one: You guys just want the phone to cost less.

Ok, yeah. Who doesn't? Doesn't mean it's gonna happen.

(What I'd like to see? $199, $299, and $399 representing 16 GB, 64 GB, and 128 GB. Then the cheapest phone is a bad value, yeah, but it's still there as the cheapest option for those who really want it and us nerds get a better value at the high end.)

It should be a sin to even offer an 8GB model and the 16GB model is quickly becoming a joke. A while ago on here me and a couple of others had a discussion about the starting sizes and we did the math and found that 16GB has been the size thats been sort of "stuck" in comparison to standard memory size growth, especially with retina displays and what not which means apps and OS's become bigger. For example the MacBook Air used to start at 64GB and as time moves on space requirements do as well (coupled with cheaper flash memory sources) the iPad, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro's seam to be expanding in memory size while the iPhone doesn't. Also 16GB's really means closer to 12GB's and 8GB's means closer to....well its very small! 32GB's seams to be a proper amount of space given how much space iOS takes up along with modern apps. My iPhone 4 16GB is so slow even with 1GB left and I'm not even on iOS 7, my dad got screwed with the 8GB iPhone 4 and iOS 7...its the slowest phone ever...if he had to make an emergency call it might take some time...I just ordered an iPhone 5c in 32GB's, I would have liked the 5S but $300 for 32GB's was steep for this month and I had waited too long already (my iPhone 4 won't charge, is slow, camera is screwy, etc.).

32GB iPhone 6 as the starting point would make most sense, followed by a 64GB and possibly a 128GB...I got an iPhone for the iPod and the phone being in one and I'm sure that's a selling point for allot of people. I'd say compromise with a 24GB iPhone but that wouldn't be in Apple style and even though its technically a logical size between 16 and 32 it might be weird. For the free iPhone or the lowest possible one (likely a 5 or 5S) 16GB would be fine but for the flagship model 32GB's and up should absolutely be standard...for a phone that doesn't have a microSD card slot getting stuck with 16GB's sure is a pain and as apps get more advanced with more graphics it'll be a pain that keeps on hurting. I tend to hang onto my iPhones for a long time too so having allot space on them is nice since in 4-5 years 32GB's might very well be a normal size if not small! I imagine if they made a 64GB iPhone 5c I would have bit the bullet on that.

IOS7 in iPhone4 was very slow yes , in IOS7.1 it's quite good. this is the reason to stil keeping my iphone4 8gb for a while.

I would have said I think they will... if the iPads last year started at 32gb.

But they didn't, so I don't see the phones moving to 32gb base now either.

The only one that I think could would be the rumored more expensive 5.5" version.

I hope so!

16GB is a joke especially for those who had iPhone's for many years and constantly transfers it to their newly upgraded devices. Also with iCloud switching devices is so easy and I just keep adding and adding to my phone and by the time iPhone 7 or something comes out i'm sure im going to need at least 64GB. LOL

I dont think it will start at 32gb but im all for it 8 and 16gb should be out of the game!

It would be about damn time, apple pays pennies per GB and they make us fork over $650 for 16GB when only 12 is for the user.

Should be 32-64-128 especially since there is no way to expand the storage, I am tired of paying $750 for a 32GB, well $299 plus a 2 Year contract, I am now on AT&T's Next Plan and do not mind paying for the phone up front or finance it with no interest over 20 months, but not buying 16GB anymore
