It is definitely priced high, but when you look at the benchmarks you really are getting a pocket PC. A few years ago upgrading yearly made a lot of sense because the jumps were pretty drastic. Now a phone can easily last you 2-4 years (if supported that long).

Part of me wants the iphone X, but the other part wants to just keep using my iphone SE and get a 12.9" ipad pro.

No it doesn't. It means that what they are offering isn't worth it. Other manufacturers are offering up free Google code on top of cheap hardware. What did they expect people to pay for this?

not worth it? Not so. Well, android market share keeps increasing whereas Apple share is on downward trend. Android is more popular. Apple is becoming less popular - why? overpriced is one of the reasons

Overpriced, absolutely. I'm thinking I will get the iPhone 8 and wait and see if the next version of the iPhone X comes down in price any. Don't get me wrong the iPhone X is a tremendous device but there's nothing new that Androids haven't been doing for cheaper so to me its hard to justify that price.

Maybe Apple is becoming less popular. Maybe not. Apple does have a higher price. Android phones have a wide range of prices. Cheaper things sell more in general. Apple has cheaper options for those who want them and don't need/want the latest and greatest tech or they are on a budget. Apple won't compete in the sell hardware for zero or negative profits game.

Android has it's $900+ options as well. the iPhone X is going to ultimately be the Galaxy Note competitor while the iPhone 8 and 8+ will be the Galaxy S8 and S8+ competitors. All these items are priced comparably (give or take 100 bucks) to the model they are supposed to compete with.

What other company has told you what their profit margins are? Something isn’t overpriced if people are willing to pay for it. The only way the X will be overpriced is if people don’t buy it.

isnt apple market share going down? It just not attracting new buyers. Couple of years ago maybe people are more willing to pay but now there are so many phones that are up to mark at much cheaper price thus people are re-looking at the price.

Lets be honest we don't actually know what it costs. We also don't know what machines and other tech had to be developed to manufacture the iPhone X...that I'm sure Apple paid for as well. What we know is the alleged cost of the parts involved. We don't know what money actually exchanged hands.

Don't assume that the sum of the parts is all the cost. There's man hours in terms of each part including the software. Looking at Apple's financial statements they typically price in a 30%-38% margin on their devices. So to me that is the most reliable indicator of is it expensive. 30%-38% margin is reasonable and not overpriced.

Many of these individual components can be priced out and that cost includes and R&D etc. Where are these “financial statements” where Apple discloses the profit margin on their products? I’m actually confused as to how they will decrease profit margins while satisfying investors.

Yes absolutely it's overpriced, they didn't exactly R&D it either considering the facial scanning and machine learning tech was acquired by buying other companies, instead of developing it themselves.

if only it were that simple...

Are we in 2011 again? People still hanging onto that "omg Android marketshare" thing? When Apple has such a small share of the market as well as nearly 90% of all the industry's profits, and iOS as the primary development platform for apps, I think it's safe to say that marketshare for Android doesn't do anything for them. Besides Samsung and their 9-10%, most of those companies are struggling just to make a profit period. Giving away phones for marketshare hasn't worked for Android here 6 years later.

If anything I'd say it's an embarrassment to Android manufacturers that a company with such small marketshare is eating almost all of their lunch and they can't seem to do anything about it. A device isn't overpriced unless consumers decide that it's overpriced by not buying it.

Note competitor? More like the S8 or S9 ....
Now if Apple had included the ability to use the pencil ...

When I look at the tech and what is included (including missing items like fast charger), what it would cost me plus extras plus tax it makes me really edgy.

I absolutely need to try in hand and see how current concerns are addressed before I would pay well over $1k. A 64GB would not be big enough for my current use.

I need to try one though before I'd make a purchasing decision.

Everything else in it already exists, bar 3D Touch on an OLED screen anyway. Oh and a fugly bar cut into the screen!
And Samsung invented cellular, WiFi, wireless charging, cameras, li batteries and fingerprint reader.

I didn't vote but I'm part of that 82% that believes it's expensive but that 33% that will buy it anyway but maybe not right away.

Remember when Nexus 4, Nexus 5, and OnePlus One were only $299? What the hell happened? It was only three years ago OPO was called the flagship killer. Now their prices have increased and Note8 and Pixel 2 XL are reaching close to $1000.

Not cool. I really thought back in 2014, OnePlus and Xiaomi would change the game. They didn't. I'm just going to wait for a promo on the X or until I pay off the S7e which still has maybe $400 left.

I refuse to sign up for another carrier. Will end up spending $110+ if I open a line with Verizon again w/ their cheapest 5gb plan ($60) + $50 monthly for X. Was hemorrhaging money for six months trying to use two lines from two different carriers.

All carriers from my experience are evil. Some are just better than others (TMo/Verizon > AT&T >>> Sprint).
