I really believe the first-gen had the best build quality of any iPad that followed.

Heavier and thicker, yes, but just a tank in terms of durability.
And I always found it more comfortable too with the thicker edges and rounded back.

I still have one running 3.(whatever it came with) since I never bothered to upgrade it and it still flies. Checkerboards and refreshes galore but still speedy enough for surfing.

If Apple ever did a retro version with new internals in the old chassis, I'd spend a mint on it.

In terms of build quality, I can't think of a device that's held up to the abuse I've given it and still manage to be in pretty good shape. I bought mine before a deployment with the intention of dumping it when it was all over. I didn't have anything special on it - just the Apple branded cover. It survived the whole experience and is still in use almost 2 years later. Not bad at all.

Yes, the first generation iPad was a solid product. I really liked it and how the edges were flat and not curved. I also liked the Apple cover that was designed for it. It was the first and even thought doesn't have some of the enhancements of newer ones, was a good product.

I mean..let's forget the specs and lightness...I'm talking about the true momentum. When I bought the ipad the original at its late stage...I felt that spark. At that time, I didn't know there was going to be ipad 2 coming soon (although I even bought ipad 2..still...). I loved the original ipad not because it looked cool (although it was at that time), but it's was the true form of ipad. It had that original functions...i mean the way it was set up. It was like a first child born into this world. After ipad 2, it just became another thing..in my opinion. What say you?

It's going to be quite a while before evolution becomes revolution. Even when they came out with the iPhone 5 and 'biggest thing to happen to iPhone since the iPhone' it was patently obvious it was more hype than anything that was genuinely going to blow people away.

For me is the first iPad the most beautiful iPad ever, not sure why, maybe those edges, but I was really about to buy first gen just to have it in the house, and I'm sure I'll purchase one soon :)

My mom still have my ipad 1. :D i should ask her to give it back to me...LMAO.
