Does it have a lip on front and back so screen or back of phone doesn’t touch surface when laying down? That’s my biggest concern is scratching it on desk etc. can’t carry pillow for my phone everywhere;)

Exactly why I got a solid rhino shield bumper case. Tested for drops from over 11 feet height.

Generally no, never on any of my Android devices, or iPhone 4s, 5, 5c, 6 Plus, 6S, SE, etc. But with one exception, my current Jet Black iPhone 7 is rocking a well used Saddle Brown Apple Leather case and I love it. The color has changed greatly over the last year plus but it still looks great and practically heals itself when it gets scratched up. But that's all just part of it's character.

Though I did manage to drop it and dent the lighting port right where the case doesn't cover it, go figure. Otherwise it's nearly mint. The microfiber does a good job of trapping dirt and keeping it from scratching the jet black finish.

I do property/building maintenance full time plus Fire&Rescue, my phone wouldn’t last a day or two without an Otterbox Defender plus a Zagg screen protector. I hate both but love my phone and can’t afford another $1000 when I break it.

There’s a lip around the camera lenses, so you can lay the phone on a hard surface face-up, but there’s no lip around the screen, which is why the phone still looks naked. It wouldn’t occur to me to set the phone face-down, so for me it’s a nonissue. But, again, I don’t drop phones. I’m only trying to protect against casual abrasion.

I have a seidio case with holster and a glass screen protector. I work building/grounds maintenance at a school and wouldn't dream of going careless. After a cracked screen on my AW it now wears a Xdoria bumper with screen protector. I do have Apple Care but that isn't the point. I spent a lot for my Apple stuff and want to keep it nice.

Yes I always use a case. Mainly for a better grip along with a Zagg glass screen protector. I am currently using a Speck Presidio grip case black/black. My 6s I just retired looks mint, was always in a case and dropped multiple times. The only damage was to the glass screen protector which is far cheaper than repairing my phone.

ETA: This thread is a welcome change from all the arguing on this forum OP..good call.

Yes well I sort of got myself going there, no shark intended.

This has always been my view on the topic:

Millions of $$$ of R&D, endless hours of design work, countless prototypes, over 10 years of experience...all covered up by a $50 piece of plastic or cheap leather.

I exclusively use an Apple leather case when I'm specifically going somewhere where cosmetic damage is likely - the gym, mainly. Otherwise, naked - the way the product was designed for.

Cases make me wince, but I understand the necessity for certain lifestyles / jobs!

Same for me. Never used a case, even at the gym. Use AirPods and phone never leaves my pocket when at the gym.
