I keep one in my glove box, but I only use it when I'm either travelling long distance (to stay on schedule too) or when I'm going somewhere I'm not familiar with.
I have a Garmin on my windshield and have the wire running through the dashboard to power, so that it isn't unsightly and looks nice. But I rarely ever turn it on, unless I am going somewhere unfamiliar.
I live and drive in London. There's plenty of small winding streets and one way systems, so having a GPS just keeps things stress free.
On short routes I know well I don't use it, but for longer trips (1 hour+) I'll always use it. If nothing else, it's useful to warn about speed cameras and to give me an ETA at my destination.
iPhone and Navigon for me too when I rent a car. No reason to pay silly money for their GPS when I have a perfectly good app for that!
When I do use it, I use it for trips I've made less than 3 times (except for going up to Vermont, I forget a couple of turns once I get off of the Taconic). But once I've made a trip a few times and it's saved up there, I rarely need GPS.
I have a Garmin and I rarely use it to navigate me within St. Louis (although it's always turned on when I'm driving, the traffic reports are nice) but I use it whenever I'm in a different city
i only ever need a gps when i'm away from home, but i don't even use it much then and i only use the built in maps app on my iPhone when i do need directions. if i'm out of town i'll get directions on my computer and a quick once-over is usually enough to get me by. i've always found the dash units distracting and annoying so i'm glad i have no real need for one.
I tried using a GPS, I really did. The problem is that they are never updated enough for me, even with the user made corrections to maps.
It creates problems in the long run.
If I'm really lost I just use google maps on my iPhone, or call 411.
I have been using some type of gps navigation for years.
Itbwas a garmine until ingots an android phone but I only really used it on longer trips. Now I use my phone if I am not sure where someplace is.
I use it occasionally, mostly if I'm going somewhere in a city that I'm unfamiliar with. But anywhere else I don't, for long trips I'll use a paper map plus google maps I don't own a GPS besides my iPhone.
I use the Navigon app on my iPhone about once a month or more. I use it a lot to find stores and restaurants (along with Google Maps and one of the apps for finding things).
I only use a GPS when I'm traveling to or in an unfamiliar place.
I live in a small city so I know my way around - if for some reason I get lost, all I have to do is drive towards the ocean and I've found my bearing again.
