I have also noticed that my mouse skips across the screen from time to time. Not sure what that is... but i don't use a mousepad, not since getting an optical mouse.

Haven't used one since 1998, when we got our first 'laser mouse', as the box advertised. But it was cack so bought a MS one that was brilliant (the basic white, right handed with no scroll wheel and a line across the base of the left button). Lasted years.
Used to have a cotton mousemat for my Amiga. Now I'm just using a laminate desk, it's got speckled bits on it so it never skips.

I haven't used one since I got my Wacom as I use the pen "most" of the time. If I'm going on surfing for a short time I use my MM or if I need to add color to a cartoon then I use the MM and the pen from my tablet but not that often.
Now prior to getting my Wacom I worn the finnish away some by not using a mouse pad on my desk  I just chalk it up as adding some character to the desk :)

I use a mousepad for two reasons:

1) I don't end up scratching the table.

2) Optical mouse on a bare table has a bad habit of causing the hole around the light sensor to clog up, and that causes all kinds of tracking problems.

Yes, I do.

:)

I don't, I just can't see why I would need one with my MX Revolution. It tracks so accurately on my desk that it would be pointless. If I was using an optical mouse on the other hand then I would see more of a need for it. My parents use an optical mouse and the thing is erratic without a mousepad.

ever since optical mice came along, i have stopped using mousepads and just use my desk surface (wood Galant desk from Ikea) - but i also have noticed my mouse randomly will skip across the whole screen, etc.. a few times a day. i am not sure if it is my mouse itself or the lack of a pad.

do you use a mousepad?

I have the same desk with a wireless Mighty Mouse, it works perfectly. I clean my desk with polish quite regularly though so dirt and scratches aren't an issue for me.

I don't like them because they look cheap and take up too much desk space. Never felt I needed one either, my Kensington SlimBlade TrackBall just works.

I have two screens so even with the mouse tracking at the highest speed, to get from one screen to the other I'd run off a mouse pad. Also they get in the way and make my desk look less tidy:p

i hadn't used one in 5-6 years until I started working and I was given a mousepad with a gel wrist-rest...i sure do enjoy that part :D

When I use my wireless Mighty Mouse, I always use a mousepad. This is the mousepad I use (the red one). When I'm not using the Mighty Mouse, I use my MacBook's trackpad.

I use a mouse mat, mouse lasts longer that way. Plus the mouse mat has a nice wrist rest too.
