I own both for my iMac. I do use the Magic Trackpad mostly, because it has more multi touch gestures.

However, I find the Magic Mouse is better for more precise work such as photo editing, video editing.

99% trackpad here. I only use the mouse in Lightroom/Photoshop for fine adjustments, as it seems to have a bit more precision. I really miss my Trackpad when I am using my crappy Lenovo work laptop....

I have tried the Mighty Mouse, Magic Mouse, and Apple Track pad. In the end I had various problems with all of them. Got a LogiTech M510 Wireless USB mouse (scroll wheel, programmable buttons, etc.) and never looked back. Batteries last forever, it is comfortable, and just works.

Sometimes, 3rd party solutions are just better than the Apple equivalents. Am thankful for choices!!!:D

Magic Mouse user here. It took a couple of days to get used to it but I prefer it over the trackpad for graphic design accuracy and the gestures work great when switching between full screen windows.

I also have a wired Mighty Mouse which I keep for a bit of gaming or if I run out of batteries in the middle of the night (which isn't often).

Mouse/Trackpad

I mainly use my trackpad as I like the gestures and there's limited room for my Magic Mouse as I use a USB keyboard (with numerical keypad). That said I do use the Magic Mouse sometimes - I find it's better than the trackpad for dragging and dropping. Also I use a separate non-Apple (wireless) mouse for certain games - mainly shoot-em-ups like CoD.

I presume you are asking about this in relation to the iMac. For that, I use the Magic Mouse. For my MBP, I use the built in track pad. I've been considering getting a Track Pad for the iMac as well so I can have the same experience as the laptop but there's no way it would be good for gaming.

The magic mouse doesn't have a scroll wheel.

It doesn't need one....gently caressing it's back with one finger will do the same thing....scroll. up/down and right/left.

Having said that, I can't stand the MM. I have both, and the MM stays in my drawer. I use the trackpad, as I love the gestures.

I have both, used the mouse on my old iMac for a few years and loved it. But, I think I prefer the trackpad on my newer Mac.

Where's BetterTouchTool?

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned BetterTouchTool. http://www.boastr.net

This is the reason that the Trackpad will be miles above any mouse, mighty or not. ;)

They allow for customizable gestures of all sorts. 2,3,4,5 finger swipes, clicks, taps, etc. Very useful.

You can also use BetterTouchTool with the Magic Mouse as well as other mice too.

True, but the mouse real estate is a lot smaller than the trackpad.

I agree, was just pointing out that BetterTouchTool is available on other devices apart from the trackpad. As far as multi touch gestures go, trackpad wins in my opinion.

At home I use a Magic Mouse mostly. The Trackpad is there for whenever I feel like switching to it.

At work, I use a wired Mighty Mouse.

They all have their strengths for me. Magic Mouse for most uses (web browsing, recording music, editing videos, etc), Trackpad for viewing photos (for pinching and other gestures), and Mighty Mouse for photoshop work since it is wired.

Just my opinion. Others could work better for other users.

I am using both a magic mouse and a magic trackpad on the Mac Pro in the office and the iMac at home.

I have found that it is very convenient to have both. Depending on the task, my hand automatically reaches the proper one.
