I use an iMac as my main machine but my sister just got a MacBook Pro so I'm using this at the moment until she comes to collect it. It's not too bad the laptop but I prefer a mouse to a trackpad but I'm not really used to one but the gestures are pretty awesome.

I use the iMac since i don't go out much, if i were to buy everything again today i would've gotten the Thunderbolt display to go with the Air (it's enough for what i do) and use just that.

iMac

Come on man. Your main machine has to have some storage.

Don't spend all that money just on a big time MBP just so you can be portable.

Get a 27" iMac as your main computer and just get an Air/iPad for portability.

Many, if not, most people don't need or want two computers.

I have one computer. A 13" MB Pro chosen because I value the portability when compared to iMac and I value the hard-drive capacity and optical drive when compared to MB Air. At my desk I connect the MBP to a large monitor.

WRT storage, the largest hard drive on the MBP (750GB) will be far more than necessary for the OP (based on the first post) and the vast majority of people.
