Sunset to sunrise works great for me. Doen’t get boring this way. Dark mode makes me extra glad I chose an SE over 5s back in the day

transition - I find some apps I just can't use in dark mode - wish we could turn in on/off by app

I was very interested in getting iOS 13 for dark mode, but now that I've tried it out (and the rest of iOS 13) I prefer regular old bright mode and earlier versions of iOS. So it's a big letdown for me

Automatic. It’s much nicer at nighttime. I don’t care much for it during the day and would prefer light mode while it’s light outside.

I just hopped on the dark mode all day all night bandwagon and I'm never going back.

Dark mode on OLED is 🔥

I must be the only person in the world that

a) can’t see any point in dark mode at all
b) loathes dark mode with a passion
c) will never use it
d) did I mention that I hate it and think it’s totally pointless

Jason

Well, not pointless as it does have purpose. Two mainly, on an OLED screen it saves a bit of battery power as any black pixel on an OLED uses no power, unlike LCD. And, if your wife is anything like mine, it reduces light output when in bed at night, so, less nagging. We’re all completely entitled to our differing opinions, but just because some of us prefer not to use dark mode, doesn’t make the feature useless, or pointless, just unnecessary for us.

In all honesty, I prefer to have dark mode off, but I can see (as above) why some people prefer it and it definitely saves me from getting moaned at to make my screen less bright at night. For that alone it’s a godsend :D

My wife uses dark mode all the time and often she finishes the day on 70%...granted she isn’t a big heavy user but still it does make a difference. Me personally? I only like to use it when it gets dark. I like the lighter look during the day.

Apparently you save up to 30% battery life on oled screens.

That test is flawed, you cannot compare the XS Max battery life with XS.

No, you are not, I am here to pat you on the back, if that is gonna make you feel better. I use it at night, but I agree about everything with you.

Irrespective of that dark mode does save on battery charge whether it’s a little or a lot. The same reason I’ve started using dark mode on my Nintendo Switch. No doubt once I upgrade my 2028 11” iPad Pro to iOS 13 I’ll switch to dark mode on that too.

Nintendo switch uses lcd and does not benefit from dark mode. In fact the battery will be slightly worse as the pixels are always ‘on’ in dark mode with lcd.
