My use varies. Sometime I won't touch it all day, sometimes I'll be on it all the time. It depends what I'm doing on my Mac at the time and what information or functions I need. The widgets I tend to use are the Calculator, Thesarus, Unit Converter, Translation and iClip Lite.

The weather widget usually gets a glance too, although its accuracy is sometimes questionable. I use the BBC version rather than the bundled Apple widget.

I use it for only one widget - the Mail checker. Saves the hassle of opening the mail app only to be disappointed in noticing that the only people that send me stuff any more are retailers.. With this widget, I can be disappointed with much less effort.

Hahaha, exactly the same for me, but with Gmail

You bet.

Standard loadout includes the Dictionary, Calendar, Weather, and a couple Stickies, as well as the Transmit widget to quickly drop stuff on my web space, and the DynDNS widget to show my current external IP. I also have iClip lite (one of my favorite widgets ever).

I keep the Package Tracker widget handy for when I'm expecting something from UPS, FedEx, or DHL. And occasionally I'll pull up Sol (a sunrise/sunset widget) or the Translation widget.

The Dashboard is almost as great as Exposé (my number one favorite feature of OS X).

Sure do use it. Right now I have the iStat Pro widget, a calendar, and the time where my brother is on. :)

I use dictionary/thesaurus, calculator, mailwidget, gmail widget, weather, movie theater times, and word of the day, as well as stickies, harmonic and iclip lite. having the mail widgets takes up less RAM than using gmail notifier and mail notifier in the menubar, as well as less than keeping the apps open.

I use dashboard quite frequently.

Weather, to check the date (because it's easier to press F12 than to move the mouse), sticky for todos, the stock updater so I can see what's going on with my stocks without having to pull up each individually or clicking through several pages at sharebuilder, and also because having a powerful scientific calculator (not the default one) at the hands of F12 is alot better than having to go around searching for my graphing calculator.

I use dashboard quite regularly, although I don't really have that many widgets. I mainly use it for the quick-access calculator and calendar, along with a few stickies for non-critical stuff I have to have handy. I also have a widget for displaying the current uptime along with the 'Sunlit Earth' widget which fascinates me (noticing the change of light pattern across the Earth's surface according to the time of the year etc).

I would definitely miss Dashboard if it were to disappear overnight :p

I use dashboard for weather, lyrics (if I'm playing a song in iTunes), and the occassional quick conversion.

Unfortunately, if I haven't used it for a while, it takes FOREVER to load -- so long, that I can almost look up the stuff I need on Safari/google quicker. But once it's loaded, it comes up instantly when I access it again in a relatively short period of time.

I'd use it a LOT more if it was super-quick each and every time.

Why not just get the app that checks your mail and alerts you in the menu bar? It checks your mail every minute and additionally whenever you ask it to update.

I totally disabled Dashboard using TinkerTool because it is a RAM hog.

Instead I use my personalized Google Site. It is just as good and it follows me wherever I go. A wonderful alternative.

Use it all the time. it's one of the best things about Tiger IMO, although Apple should give people an option to disable it all together, like GimmeSlack12 did, but without the haxie...

Don't use it a lot because it's slooooow - don't know if that's due to the Radeon 9000 in my Powermac G4 MDD.

I sometimes check train times using a Widget I have for that. I also sometimes let it check my gmail account, which is mainly for sign-ups that I suspect might cause me spam. All in all, it's less exciting to me than Konfabulator used to be.

I've used TinkerTool to disable Dashboard all together... just didn't find the use for it...

I use the kitchen timer, so i can time my cooking that's about it.
Check out Minuteur. Very handy... :)

Rarely, only to check the weather.
Since the little menu bar item Meteorologist (which I used on my iBook) hasn't gone Universal, yet, I've actually gotten Yahoo Widget Engine and run widescapeWeather on my Desktop.

I really think it's the least usefull thing on OS X.
There other things I don't use, either, but what I don't like about Dashboard is the (3rd party) development resources that should be used for making ingenious little Mac applications now goes into making Widgets... :(

Sherlock was a semi-predecessor to Spotlight and Dashboard (I guess?). It was part of System 8.5 up to 9.2 although I never really used it.
It's still around...

It's even Universal:

i used it a few times just to test out my new radeon 7000. however, it's usually disabled to recalim some memory. so the answer is "no."
