I use it quite abit tbh and think it's great. I don't get any lag or anything, quite unreal feature really.
Wish it was available over 3G without JB!

No due to the wifi only restriction.

Same here. I'm JB'd, but my husband is not, and he's only on wifi here at home. Kinda pointless to FT across the house. LOL No one else we know has iPhone 4 or the latest iPod Touch--everyone's still on last year's models.

If they ever get it over 3G, it might be a lot more useful, but right now I've tried it once and pretty much said, meh.

Those of you using the iPhone or Touch--do you use a stand or just hold it?

I don't know anyone else with an iPhone 4, and I'd have to text them to see if they had wifi access before I did it anyway... I wish it was available as a normal video call to other video call phones at normal video call rates. Quite flawed in my opinion, but I don't really care about it anyway.

To those that use facetime - does it lag at all or is it like the iPhone video recording (beautiful and you can't believe it's a phone)?

I use it over 3g in a jailbroken iphone 4 with My3G and it works flawlessly. No lag, no stutter, sound is synchronized, works perfectly. I can have it on while driving in a car and it looks like on those COPS shows. Really amazing. I used it at a restaurant and chatted with a friend because he could not be with us for dinner. Not too loud, as if he was sitting there, didn't bother the other guest at all and even they were amazed how good the quality was. Facetime is alot better than Fring, have not tried it with Yahoo so don't know.

I don't want to void my warranty and I am not clued on enough to attempt jailbreaking my phone. I'd end up with a worthless, albeit good looking paperweight lol :)

Is it hard to do for someone who hasn't got any experience? Are the advantages really worth it?

I tried it for the 1st time a couple of nights ago with a buddy of mine that lives in ATL. I tried it on my i4 and then again on my Macbook. It's pretty decent.

No but I do use iChat. And FaceTime for desktop is not the same thing. My mom has our old 12" PowerBook and iChats with the grandkids almost every weekend. She's running 10.5.8 but FaceTime for desktop is only 10.6.4 which really limits who can use it. We're thinking about updating her PowerBook to our MacBook at some point. Then she would have it. But my in-laws use Skype for video chats. So we would still need our iMac or MacBook for them. Ideally by next spring we'll have a FaceTime capable iPad that can do family video chats at the breakfast table.

tried it once for the novelty. But since excluding my 3G and 3GS every phone I have had for the last 7 or 8 years has been capable of video calling and I haven't found a use for it then and cant see it changing. Apples whole adversing campaign about it has fallen on deaf ears imo, if video call was to take off it would have done so by now.

Nope, just a couple of friends have i4 but I don't talk to them much so it was just the first try and that was it :(

Too bad it doesn't work with nokia 5800 and windows, my gf doesn't own any apple products :(

Might be time to trade her in :D Just kidding!!

It's good for checking out the wives beaver, but I don't want to see my mate fat Bobs ugly face, and he thinks it's funny to get his nob out.

Facetime should do well for porn telephone lines but is basically a useless gimmick.

Can't wait for it to come out on iPad, Not.

I only use it with two people which is like once or twice a week. Most of my other friends don't have an ip4. When apple implements iChat integration(rumored to be on windows too), then I'll see much more use of it.

BTW ..... I use the front facing cam almost every other day to speak with family & friends in Brazil & Jamaica using the Yahoo messing app, which is just as good as facetime.

So the front cam is really worth it to me.

I don't use it EVERYday, but more than every once in a while. 5+ times a week, every week since its release. I am willing to bet I will use it even more so since the release of beta facetime for the computer.

Someone woke up with his cranky hat? You guys have furry beavers on the other side of the pond? :D

So you think all software that lets you video call family, friends and associates in different physical locations is a gimmick?

-J.-

Not at all. If Apple were to release FaceTime for Windows, then perhaps I could use it more with my family members. My wife and I are the only Mac users in each of our families, and we're also the only ones with the iPhone 4.

i'll +1 internet for you.

I am liking the new Mac facetime. It's awesome when your kids are at home and can video chat them with simply your phone from across the country.

I facetime probably once a day to various people.... i love it. My3G is a great app.

I use it to call home from school to talk to my family. Works great.

We never used Skype or iChat, even though we all have Macs with cameras. FaceTime has made it a little easier.
