Apple maps just lead me to the middle of nowhere this weekend, 20 miles away from where I was trying to go... It was a rural area but still. I opened Google maps and was there In about a half hour.

Until Apple Maps gets transit directions, no thank you. Google Maps is a must-have on all my device. For people who drive everywhere, Apple maps seems to be fine.

While I like Apple Maps, Google wins for:

Lane guidance - this is SO key when on unfamiliar routes
The ability to scroll through the map while still navigating.
See Traffic while navigating

Apple's main advantage:
Lock screen integration
Siri integration
Obviously, these are 2 unfair advantages that Apple gets for being a native app.

i use Google maps to search and drive to business and Navigon for residential addresses...

Apple Maps told me a street in Brooklyn was actually in Ohio. Turned on google maps and a couple of turns led me to the destination in Brooklyn. You're going to have to pry Google maps from my cold dead hands.

I use waze mostly. But also google maps to find short poi not a long trip or commute cause the cop warning and accident notification is second to none on waze.

Google maps second. The voice guidance is pleasant.

Apple maps has given me the wrong directions in the past. And searching for stores and what not, Apple maps just doesn't have the same amount of data to find stores not reviewed on yelp.

I never use Apple maps and I actually hide the icon.

Not so much happy about it, but I'm using Apple Map, since I can't find anything better on Google maps, so I don't want to install other apps.

For me, it used to be Waze. Then Google bought that app and turned it into a social-media platform. You can't share your ETA and route with anyone now unless they're also members of the Waze social network. Sucks terribly, as Waze had the best traffic routing by far.

For now, the Scout Maps app is a good alternative to Waze.

Google Maps jumped the shark for me about 18 months ago, such as when it tried to route me to my hotel outside Chicago and got it entirely wrong and attempted to route me to a very (as in very very) dangerous neighborhood. I've found it increasingly inaccurate in general.

I use Apple Maps with increasing frequency. Nice user interface. As an app, it started badly, as we all know. But it's quite good now.

Try using Siri with a command like "Give me transit directions to Starbucks". It will display a list of your installed navigation apps instead of going directly to Apple Maps. Not quite handsfree, but just one tap. ;)

I have both, but I have been using Apple Maps most of the time. Where I live, it worked well.

Always Apple, I like that it shows up on the lock screen with a visual when you need to turn or something. Never had a problem, never used google maps for very long.

Waze was always a social app and as far as I can tell, not a single thing has changed since Google bought them.

It is still modified the same way (by users) and is the most accurate map app out there. For POI's it still has access to Google info for that as well (as it always did).

You can always turn the social part off....It was the first thing I did. I only see what I choose to see.

If all you need to is get from point A to point B, most apps will do the job fine. But if traffic conditions and police traps are important, none of others can touch Waze.

1. Google
2. Apple

I tried Waze for a road trip. It suggested I cross the U.S./Canada border where there was a direct in-country route. I deleted it immediately.

I'll use maps.me if there no cell signal. I'll preload maps before a trip. It doesn't do routing but I rarely need that feature.

Apple maps all the way now. It has steadily improved after its botched launch to a point that I now use it almost exclusively. Plus, I find the maps far more readable than Google's. I haven't felt the need to go with Google Maps in almost a year. Even when I was using Google Maps as an option 1b, it was far from perfect.

Used to be a big Apple maps hater. I have used them over the last few months with good results. I still prefer Google though. Their latest update is great. I also find Google posts much more relevant traffic data.
