Google Maps.

For Apple Maps, not only is the map data and POI data total crap, but the app itself is tragically bad. Not letting you zoom out a lot and not letting you pan around at all mid-navigation? Come on, how can the world's richest company be this bad at common sense?

My 2015 M4 has an exemplary NAV system unmatched by any new car I've owned to date.

In lieu of that system my first choice mainly based on accuracy proven by the fact I'm on the road 40k annually, is Google Maps.

Apple a close second and nicely improved over their earlier misguided results.

My 2015 Ferrari Italia 458 navigation sucks. I use google maps. Lol

In Apple Maps, you can tap the screen to bring up the menu bars, then tap the overview button to allow free zooming and panning while still having the route active. But yeah this usage is much more fluent in Google Maps--it lets you zoom and pan anytime. I'm not sure why Apple makes you do extra steps.

I'm assuming you aren't in the US? I say that because North America NBT Version: 2015-1 which your car would have is mediocre at best and I feel like I'm sugar coating it just saying that. My entire neighborhood isn't even listed, that is a feat that no other GPS system has pulled off.

I'd take Apple Maps over any iDrive system CIC, CCC, NBT, whatever and I don't like Apple maps.

Looks pretty, surprising fluid for a built in unit, cool integration with the vehicle (steering wheel sensor and stuff like that) but once your passed the fluff...yuck.

Used google exclusively before. But now use Apple for navigation when I realized it shows directions on the lock screen. And the screen shuts off when there are no immediate instructions. Saves a lot of battery.

All of them are and have huge upcharges to update the "discs"...I mean c'mon.

Audi does have Google maps integration with live traffic on later models and I think Chevrolet is adding options as well...but why pay extra for that when the best most updated maps and POI's are offered for free on your phone?

And now that decent 5-6" phones exist with Bluetooth integration onto audio systems, there are very few excuses to utilizing integrated or separate GPS units unless a very specific feature is needed.

The only reason I have nav on my Audi is that it comes with the package that includes the back-up camera and a couple of other things I wanted from the technology package.

Apple maps works just fine. For those of you that say it's crap or it leads you to the wrong place are wrong!! Plain and simple. I use both and to me, there's not much difference in the accuracy between the two. I much prefer the voice on Google maps as the pronunciations are better. I've had Apple maps give me better and shorter routs than google before. They are both good, I don't consider Apple maps crap though.

Yep. I had an Audi and have a Subaru both have NAV due to the packages that I wanted other stuff. The packages are so annoying too. You want heated mirrors? Well thats in the NAV package....WHY!? Thats just an example.

I always find the built in NAV systems to have clunky controls.

Saying someone is wrong is too black and white for this discussion.

For example look up Falcon Ln, Aberdeen, MD on both Google and Apple maps.

You'll find that entire neighborhood missing on Apple Maps. Its a 8 year old neighborhood. So in that case Apple map can not lead you to the correct place, therefore what they are saying is not wrong at all.

Notice the other roads missing through there too. Even the creek thing through there isn't accurate on Apple maps (its there if you scroll around).

Still prefer Google - better accuracy worldwide, better traffic info, transit information and direction in major cities around the world, store info including floor plans for major cities around the world, street view, accident or road closure information in addition to traffic etc.

Google Maps. I don't like the fact you can't look ahead in Apple Maps.

Just curious, what do you mean by "you can't look ahead in Apple Maps"? You mean you can't see a list of turns/directions?

In Google Maps, your directions are not locked...in Apple Maps, they are. When you pitch to zoom out with Google Maps, you can look all over the city, state, etc...in Apple Maps, it locks in a certain area. I don't like the fact that I can't look far ahead in AM.

always google maps I've never tried the Apple one since the launch flop then forstall got fired, has it got any better?

Apple Maps has gotten a lot better for me (in western Canada) but Google Maps is still better especially in newer areas/developments and for traffic availability - I still flip flop between both all the time.

Having said that, Google Maps on iOS has two serious drawbacks; 1. It's not very optimized - it consistently overheats my phone and kills the battery, while Apple Maps does neither. 2. There's no dark/night mode for nighttime driving like Apple Maps. Even at the lowest brightness, Google Maps is too bright for use at night.

Apple maps mostly. I like that I can lock the phone and it will only turn on when something is ahead. They have fixed a couple of one way street issues that was there when it launched and theres a lot mor POI's then before. Google maps is also really bad with roundabouts (the icon shows maybe a right turn but it's actually the third exit) and theres a lot of those in Sweden.

I prefer apple maps...its much easier on battery life and i prefer the cleaner UI (most of the time) and integration with contacts, which google doesnt get.

Apple maps works fine for me locally and on trips. Sometimes pop out to Google maps for POIs but I don't like the GM interface. Apple maps works great with my Apple Watch too.
