I've had my Mac for a week now, and I am loving the dock. LOL
Maybe I will get annoyed soon, judging from everyone's comments. Uh oh...

I use magnification on my Dock as well. I think it's a very useful feature and it just looks cool.

Yes but it is very very low. It is very annoying if you have magnify all the way. Every time I go to the Apple store, they have all the computers set to max on magnifing. I change all of them every chance I get. I must have OCD:p

Yes, I have it just above the dock size - so there is just a slight movement. :) I like it.

Don't worry, there are plenty of other things that might annoy you, too. :D

Look into everything, especially the preferences. You might find a lot of things that you didn't realise were there.

I just tried magnification at around 66% and it looks nice. I wonder what these things are... lol

I love the magnification! It makes the dock look so much more organic and alive, its wonderful. I have it set to magnify the icons by about 50%. Beautiful.

I use it on my PowerBook, but not on my Power Mac. On my PowerBook's relatively small screen, it's nice. On my Power Mac, where I mostly use Final Cut Studio, Photoshop etc, it annoys me because it activates when I try to click toolbars and stuff at the bottom of the screen. Besides, the screen is bigger, and I have less apps in my Dock on my Power Mac, so it's not really necessary.

i keep the dock REALLY small and then use max magnification -- i just like how it works

I love it because I put all kinds of applications on the dock and I keep it small. When I need an application and move the cursor over the dock, it appears all the applications are at attention and ready to do my bidding. It's a power thing.

But I've been thinking of getting rid of a lot in my dock, and using Spotlight instead.

Funny, I have been thinking about doing the same thing, my dock has become a huge, bloated, out-of-control, beast. Be nice to chuck it all and use Spotlight, but I wonder how efficient it is when ones daily business is print and web design?

I'm sure I will be yelled at for "stretching the window" but thought the pic necessary to illustrate the monstrosity that is my obsession...

highres, have you thought of using folders to groups some of the more similar apps together. You just need to drag a folder holding aliases of apps to the Dock. :)

I don't do this myself, so I don't know how practical it'd be in day-to-day use. Also, you may want customised folder icons to help pick things apart. :)

i like eye-candy. the fluid-thingy that the widgets do when u open them is my favorit.--which is why i'm pissed that my mac mini doesn't have a good enough graphics card. i need an Intel mac mini. i also hope OS X 10.5 has more eye-candy.

dude-- that's the coolest picture i've ever seen in my life... i bet u have a 30" screen.

Nope. I have Hiding on and Magnification off. I rarely venture over to the dock to launch programs because of Quicksilver. However, to accomodate those rare occasions when I'd rather use the dock to launch programs, I've placed my most used programs on the dock along with the Applications folder itself to give me a sort of Start Menu for all of my apps.

Good suggestions, I am going to try both and see how it works out. It will cut down on some of the clutter in my life and on my dock...
