So basically users who have enabled "Capture Outside the frame" now should disable the feature and just pray their photos get DeepFusioned . Real Bummer.

What is Video Capture outside the Frame used for?
Does that also need to be disabled for Deep Fusion? I'm guessing not considering Deep Fusion is a phot0-only feature?

The point of deep fusion is it is just there in the background. It doesn't need or require user thinking. It only applies it when it needs to.
Unless you've enabled that other great tentpole feature, which apparently overrides this tentpole feature.

Even the most ardent Apple fan has to admit, they've done a horrible job making these cool features actually accessible to the average Joe.

Well I use it all the time so I can get 24mp photos. So in order to use deep fusion, I’ll turn the Ciotf off while indoors and on while outside since deep fusion is not used during the daytime/sunny conditions.

Incorrect, if you have Capture Out of Frame then it’s not “Just there”, it’s literally turned OFF and the average joe will not even know they have Deep Fusion Disabled.

Yes, that's exactly what everyone who's been testing 13.1 has been saying for the past month.

Like I said, Apple could easily remedy this by making it a toggle that says Prioritize Deep Fusion or something, so that it does COtF unless it's a Deep Fusion shot (and maybe a Deep Fusion indicator so we know when it's disabling COtF) ...

Remember, Deep Fusion only works in very specific lighting conditions. If it's too bright, it'll do Smart HDR. Too dark, and it'll go into Night Mode. But in between those two, Deep Fusion kicks in.

Basically what I do to test it is to take a picture with COtF disabled, using the 2x optical zoom (since the aperture of that lens is smaller, it's more likely to use Deep Fusion as the sensor is receiving less light than the wide lens) preferably indoors with a room light on. Or outdoors, as long as it's not bright. Take the picture, tap the preview to see it 'glitch' once the Deep Fusion processing is done, then pop into settings, enable COtF and go back to take the same picture again. Zoom in, and you should be able to see the difference.

Apple certainly needs to add a toggle of some sort or just make it an automatic process that can pick between Smart HDR, Deep Fusion and Capture out of Frame without having to compromise and turn any of these features off for any of them to function as they should. This is an absolutely absurd decision from Apple to make us completely disable one feature to enjoy another feature.

yeah this is true. However they may have been in some sort of a rush to get version 13.2 out so everybody can at least enjoy it and they will probably tweak it as they go along. so in the upcoming future updates you might see some adjustment toggles like you’re talking about in the settings.

That is interesting, I will have to test more as the night mode was coming on when I did the shots.
Damn Apple, you think they would give you plain instructions about Deep Fusion.

Photo capture outside the frame is useful when doing specific shots where the framing may not have been perfect
Only downside is that deep fusion does NOT work when it’s turned on
It is a big plus when it’s needed
